[The Fact | Reporter Park Ji Yoon] The movie Exhuma will officially meet local audiences through the Beijing International Film Festival.

On the 1st, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) said: "Five Korean films including "Exhuma" (directed by Jang Jae Hyun) were invited to the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival, from 14th to 19th".

Beijing International Film Festival is the event chosen as the largest film festival in China along with Shanghai International Film Festival. Among them, "Exhuma" is the first work to premiere in Korea in 2024, named in the 'Carnival Midnight Thrill' section.

Previously, some Chinese netizens posted a photo containing tattoos on the faces and bodies of the characters in "Exhuma": "In China, writing or engraving words on the face is an insulting and humiliating act." It's funny that Koreans write Chinese characters they don't know on their faces," he mocked the work.

Professor Seo Kyung Duk criticized: "In recent years, Korean dramas and movies have attracted the world's attention, so Chinese netizens' inferiority complex is increasing. Healthy criticism is good, but I want to advise Chinese netizens that they should not secretly review K-content from now on.".

Attention is focused on what kind of reaction 'Exhuma' will receive from Chinese audiences, which has attracted 10 million viewers domestically and continues to be a box office success abroad, including in Indonesia and Vietnam.

In addition, director Hong Sang-soo's new film 'A Traveler's Needs', which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, was called into the Dimension category, and ' It's Okay!' (Directed by Kim Hye -young), 'Work To Do' (Directed by Park Hong-jun)' 'Picnic' (directed by Kim Yong-gyun) will be screened.

But, the Panorama category in which the five works were invited to participate is not a competitive category to determine the winner.

However, since 2017, only one Korean film has been released in China, 'Oh! Moonhee' (released in China in December 2021), and screening the latest Korean films at the China International Film Festival is rare, so this invitation is very special.

In particular, 'Picnic' and 'Work To Do' were transferred to the Beijing International Film Festival through support from the China Film Festival office for foreign film festivals.

In addition, the FIC China office will start periodically screening Korean films in 2024, together with the Korean Cultural Center at Chungmuro Hall, the first basement of the Cultural Institute from the 5th. In April, the films directed by Lee Chang Dong, 'Burning' and 'Peppermint Candy' will be screened.
