[The Fact | Reporter Gong Mina] Professional gamer Faker Lee Sang Hyuk revealed the reason for refusing the large salary offered by China.
In the tvN entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block' broadcast on the 20th, Faker was asked why he refused the Chinese annual salary of 24.5 billion won, he shared that : "My goal is to learn and develop rather than money or fame" and "In the team, everyone also treats each other very well"
The annual salary that China offered Faker was directly revealed by T1 CEO Joe Marsh last April. He announced on an internet broadcast at the time that after Faker became a free agent, he received an offer from a Chinese LPL team with an annual salary of 20 million USD (about 24.5 billion won at the time). Joe Marsh explained why he was able to extend Faker's contract: “Faker has accumulated a lot of wealth. What's important to him is not money but winning."
Faker won the League of Legends World Championship 2023 (Worlds Cup) in November this year and won the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last September.
Yoo Jae Seok asked referring to what Faker said when he won the LoL championship, “This victory is for the team, not for me.”
In response, Faker said: “This year, I thought ‘I need to have a goal.’ When I first debuted, I worked hard because I wanted to make a lot of money. Years passed, I achieved my goal. As my career built, I thought about whether or not I should set the goal of winning again, and I realized that I could pursue that goal if it was a goal for others and not for myself.
Faker has achieved many successes this year, including winning the Worlds Cup, winning an Asian Games gold medal, and being selected as LCK Player of the Year.
