Netflix announced on the 1st that, ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 will premiere on December 26." They also revealed that the final installment of the series, 'Squid Game' Season 3, will premiere in 2025. Along with the announcement of the premiere date, the first image of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) was also released.
In the photo, Gi-hun appears with shorter black hair and wearing a green tracksuit with the number 456, a stark contrast to the scene where he was preparing to board a plane to the United States at the end of Part 1. The fact that he, the sole survivor and winner of Part 1, returned to the game on his way to meet his daughter has made viewers curious about why and how he re-entered the game.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed 'Squid Game', shared his feelings about the release of Part 2 and Part 3 through a letter. He began the letter with the sentence, "The game has truly begun," a short but exciting sentence. Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his joy and excitement at the announcement of the release date of Part 2 and the news of the production of Part 3.
He continued, "Sung Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who promised to take revenge at the end of Part 1, will return and participate in the game. Will he succeed in taking revenge as he said?"
'Squid Game' is about participants in a mysterious survival competition with a prize of up to 456 billion won, willing to risk their lives to become the final winner. Part 1 premiered in September 2021 and was widely loved. Part 2 will feature Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Kyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.
