NewJeans Claims Pressure, ADOR Refutes

[The Fact | Reporter Jung Byung-geun] NewJeans and management company ADOR continue to confront each other, this time over the group's Hong Kong performance being canceled.

On February 19, ADOR denied the accusations: "ADOR has never requested the cancellation of NewJeans' Hong Kong performance. Chairman Bang Si-hyuk has not contacted us about this issue." The company also affirmed: "We only asked the organizers to use the official group name 'NewJeans' and hold the event according to the exclusive contract."

This statement is to refute the accusations from NewJeans. Previously, the members' parents posted on social media: "According to sources from ComplexCon, Chairman Bang Si-hyuk directly called the American partner to prevent NJZ's performance." At the same time, they also affirmed: "ADOR has taken many other obstructive actions."

NewJeans is currently pursuing its own path amid a contract dispute with ADOR. The group recently announced that it would change its name to NJZ, but ADOR immediately responded: "Changing its name and operating independently without a legal judgment is a serious breach of contract."

The performance at ComplexCon Hong Kong on March 23 was supposed to be the group's first official appearance under the name NJZ, where they were expected to perform a new song.

The tension between NewJeans and ADOR has shaken the K-pop industry. On February 19, five major music associations in Korea, including the Korea Entertainment Management Alliance, the Korea Entertainment Producers Association, the Korea Music Industry Association, the Recording Industry Association of Korea, and the Korea Music Content Association, jointly issued a statement calling for the enactment of an anti-tampering law to protect the stability of the K-pop market.

NewJeans continued to refute: "These statements are intended to mislead the public. According to the law, the termination of the contract is effective immediately, and our contract with ADOR has now ended."

Previously, on November 28 last year, NewJeans held an emergency press conference to announce the termination of the contract with ADOR. On November 29, the group officially announced their departure from the company. In response, in December, ADOR filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the contract, while also requesting a temporary restraining order to prevent the group from signing new contracts or engaging in other entertainment activities.
