Ha Yeon-ju’s Gyrotonic Challenge: A Fit Body

Ha Yeon-ju recently shared a photo of herself doing Gyrotonic exercises. She wore black workout clothes and performed Gyrotonic exercises at home. In a photo posted to her Instagram on the 4th, Ha Yeon-ju was seen exercising on a special machine called a ″pulley tower″ in a black bra top and short leggings. Using the machine, Ha Yeon-ju was seen in a position to strengthen her back and core muscles. Her toned physique and erector spinae muscles were striking. Netizens who saw the post commented, ″She’s really flexible,″ and ″Doing Gyrotonic exercises at home is amazing.″

The Gyrotonic exercise Ha Yeon-ju performed is based on the mechanical structure of the human body and originated from rehabilitation exercises. The term ″Gyrotonic″ comes from the word ″gyro,″ meaning all three directions, and ″tonic,″ meaning muscle contraction and relaxation. Ha Kwon-young, director of Begin Pilates & Gyrotonic in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, explained, ″This exercise was designed for modern times, so it contains many movements that modern people need. Many people have a forward head posture or turtle neck, and it’s effective in correcting these postures.″ Gyrotonic exercises maintain the body’s long axis, increasing joint space and improving joint flexibility. It also contributes to body shape correction through spine and torso movement.

There are various specialized equipment used in Gyrotonic exercises. Representative examples include the pulley tower, jumping-stretching board, and Gyrotonic. The pulley tower used by Ha Yeon-ju utilizes pulleys to perform various movements, helping to improve spinal and joint function. This equipment is designed to utilize the entire body, rather than targeting specific muscles. It can simultaneously improve core stability, joint range of motion, and balance.

The jumping-stretching board is a piece of equipment that simultaneously trains full-body strength and flexibility by jumping and sliding on an inclined board. It strengthens lower body strength and agility, and is also effective in improving cardiopulmonary endurance. The Gyrotonic is a device that performs upper and lower body rotational exercises with a 360-degree rotating handle. It increases shoulder and spinal rotational mobility, helps correct asymmetrical posture, and strengthens core stability.

If you want similar effects to Gyrotonic, you can opt for Gyrotonic without any special equipment. Gyrotonic is performed on a mat or chair and is effective in strengthening small muscles. However, practicing Gyrotonic alone, like Ha Yeon-ju, carries a risk of injury. Equipment like pulley towers and jumping boards must be adjusted to the right angle and handle position for your body type. Failure to do so can place unnecessary pressure on joints or excessive range of motion, potentially straining the back and shoulders.

Breathing is crucial during Gyrotonic. Holding your breath or moving too quickly can reduce muscle relaxation and increase tension, potentially leading to injury. Therefore, stretching should be done before and after Gyrotonic, and it is safer for beginners to repeat short, frequent sessions rather than exercising for a long time all at once.
