Annie, a member of the co-ed idol group ″All Day Project,″ revealed the story behind her debut. On the 5th, Annie appeared on Jang Do-yeon’s YouTube web variety show ″Salon Drip 2,″ revealing what inspired her to dream of becoming an idol. She said, ″I always had to imitate 2NE1 and Big Bang songs.″ She continued, ″I always had to do CL’s parts. So I gave my younger sister chocolates and made her memorize the other members’ parts.″
Annie also discussed her parents’ reactions. ″When I practiced singing or dancing, they’d say, ’It’s too noisy.’ They’d say, ’If you worked this hard on something else, you’d already have a house built.’″ She continued, ″When I told them I wanted to be a singer, they’d say, ’You must have just had a blast.’ I still hate being told, ’You had a blast.’″
When asked about the offer to debut as an idol, Annie explained, ″I auditioned for The Black Label and became a trainee.″ She continued, ″At the time, I was studying abroad in the US, so I took remote classes, recorded evaluation videos, and sent them to the company for feedback. This process lasted for four years. When I returned to Korea during vacation, I went to the company and practiced.″
Regarding the public’s reaction after her debut, she said, ″I accept positive feedback that I think I need to improve upon, but I ignore groundless criticism. If I don’t see it, I don’t know what I lack, so I just react.″
Annie is the eldest daughter of Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yoo-kyung and the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group Chairman Lee Myung-hee. She is also the niece of Chairman Chung Yong-jin. The Black Label, which All Day Project is affiliated with, is an entertainment agency founded by renowned producer Teddy, who has produced groups like Big Bang and Blackpink.
