SM Entertainment Takes Preemptive Action to Block Artist Safety Threats

SM Entertainment, the agency representing NCT, has taken a firm stance against invasions of privacy and safety concerning its artists. On the 7th, the agency communicated through its official fan community, Weverse, emphasizing the need for NCT fan etiquette to cultivate a mature fandom culture and safeguard the rights of its artists in light of recent safety threats.

The agency highlighted the importance of maintaining order at airports, warning fans against excessive physical contact, attempts at conversation, and the giving of gifts or letters during artists’ arrivals and departures. Such actions could pose safety risks. SM specifically prohibited the giving of gifts and letters both at the airport and on airplanes, particularly due to incidents of fans approaching artists’ seats.

Additionally, SM addressed the unauthorized use of artists’ personal information to alter or cancel airline seats, labeling these actions as obstruction of business, which could lead to claims for damages. The agency also strictly forbade the use of improperly obtained information to share flights or visit the airport.

The notice further cautioned against unofficial schedules and visiting private spaces. SM stated that all areas related to an artist’s private life, including their residences, are vital for their daily life and relaxation. They urged fans to refrain from waiting outside residences or filming private schedules. Blocking or following an artist’s vehicle is also viewed as obstruction of business. SM called for an end to all privacy violations, including the illegal acquisition and distribution of personal information such as registration numbers, phone numbers, addresses, flight details, and IDs, as well as unauthorized contact with the artist and their acquaintances.

The agency emphasized the potential for strict legal action against illegal activities, including stalking and personal information leaks, in accordance with relevant laws. SM reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights of its artists and promoting a healthy fan culture.

In a specific case involving their artist Rise, SM issued a strong warning against actions that disrupt artists’ schedules, such as changing or canceling flight seats by stealing personal information. The agency reminded fans that such actions clearly constitute obstruction of business and may lead to damages.

SM Entertainment expressed gratitude to NCT fans and reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a mature fandom culture while protecting the rights of its artists.
