Ailee’s ’Topping’ pre-release and fan concert ahead of first Japanese single


The group ILLIT has made a significant impact on the Japanese music scene with the pre-release of their track ″Topping″ ahead of their debut in September. Released on August 11th, ″Topping″ is part of their first Japanese single, ″Toki Yo Tomare″ (original title: 時よ止まれ), and is available on various online music streaming platforms.

″Topping″ is a pop song that captures the mixed emotions of a girl preparing for her first date. It delves into her anxieties about her crush’s behavior and cleverly depicts her surroundings as heart-shaped, reflecting her feelings. The catchy phrase ″Top Top Topping,″ which encapsulates the highs of falling in love, stands out as particularly memorable.

This track was initially featured in a commercial for Lacoste Japan’s new sneaker collection, where ILLIT’s clear vocals and upbeat melody received positive feedback from viewers. Notably, popular Japanese singer-songwriter Noa contributed to the writing and composition of ″Topping.″ Known for her hit ″Any Angle,″ which gained traction on platforms like TikTok, Noa praised ILLIT, stating, ″Their charming, girlish sensibility and honest, confident image are beautifully reflected in this song. I hope it resonates with many listeners.″

ILLIT performed ″Topping″ live during the fan concert ″2025 ILLIT GLITTER DAY IN JAPAN″ at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on the 10th. Their vibrant and engaging performance captivated the audience, and Noa made a surprise appearance, enhancing the excitement with a collaborative performance.

The group’s first Japanese single, ″Toki Yo Tomare,″ is set to be released on September 1st and encapsulates the fleeting yet sparkling moments of youth. The album includes four tracks: the title track ″Toki Yo Tomare,″ ″Topping,″ the Japanese version of ″Borrowed Cat (Do the Dance)″ from their third mini-album ″bomb,″ and ″Almond Chocolate,″ ILLIT’s first original Japanese song that debuted in February and topped local charts.

ILLIT continues to resonate with their global fanbase, particularly among teenagers and those in their 20s, by collaborating with popular artists like Noa and Murasaki Ima for this single. They are also releasing limited editions and merchandise in partnership with the globally beloved Care Bears characters.
