F1 The Movie surpasses 3.64 million viewers thanks to its reversal of popularity.

Films revitalizing theaters are breaking box office records. The racing film ″F1: The Movie,″ starring Brad Pitt, has become the highest-grossing film of the year, riding a wave of popularity. Meanwhile, the family comedy ″Zombie Daughter″ is rapidly breaking records, surpassing 3 million viewers in just 11 days since its release.

The Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network reported that ″Zombie Daughter″ maintained its top spot at the box office this past weekend (July 8-10), attracting 840,481 viewers. This marks its 12th consecutive day at number one, with a cumulative audience count of 3,351,394. The film follows a father, Jeong-hwan (played by Jo Jung-seok), who tries to protect his daughter, Soo-ah (played by Choi Yu-ri), infected with a zombie virus.

″Zombie Daughter″ reached the milestone of 3 million viewers on the afternoon of July 9, achieving this feat faster than any other film this year. In comparison, ″Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning″ took 23 days to reach the same number, while ″Opposition″ took 27 days. ″F1: The Movie″ and ″Mickey 17″ took 40 and 39 days, respectively. This achievement is one day quicker than last summer’s top-grossing film, ″Pilot.″ Given its rapid audience mobilization, ″Zombie Daughter″ is poised to become this year’s box office hit.

The film is also targeting the global market, having been invited to the Panorama section of the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in October. Angel Sala, the festival’s director, praised the film for its balance of comedy and drama, noting its fresh take on classic comedy formulas while resonating with younger audiences.

″F1: The Movie″ ranked second at the weekend box office, attracting 318,869 viewers and bringing its cumulative audience to 3,643,469. Just 46 days after its release, it surpassed 3.4 million viewers, overtaking ″Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning″ (3.39 million) to become the most-watched film of the year. Initially underperforming, ″F1: The Movie″ gained popularity through word-of-mouth.

The film tells the story of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a veteran driver from the 1990s, who joins a bottom-ranked team and races alongside a rookie driver to win the championship. Its realistic racing scenes have resonated well with audiences.

Released on the 6th, the action film ″Ballerina,″ set in the ″John Wick″ universe, ranked third at the box office, attracting 105,432 viewers in its opening weekend. Its cumulative audience reached 187,212, surpassing 100,000 viewers by its third day. ″Ballerina″ is gaining traction faster than its predecessors, ″John Wick″ and ″John Wick: Chapter 12.″ The film garnered significant attention upon its North American release, recording an opening gross of $10 million (KRW 13.9 billion). It follows Eve (Ana de Armas), a woman raised as a killer by the assassination organization Rusca Roma, as she seeks the truth to avenge her father.

Animated films are also making notable gains as summer approaches. ″King of Kings,″ which sparked a K-animation craze in North America, ranked fourth at the box office, attracting 84,143 viewers over the weekend. ″The Smurfs″ followed with 63,576 viewers, and ″Bad Guys 2″ attracted 53,474 viewers.
