Jo Jazz’s path to becoming a singer opened thanks to his wife.

Singer Jo Jazz expressed heartfelt gratitude for his wife during the August 12th broadcast of KBS 1TV’s ″Morning Plaza - Tuesday Invitation.″ He shared his journey as a singer who started working in a bar, reminiscing, ″Even after my debut, I was known as the bar owner and singer. I cooked and served drinks myself. I started with a pop-up bar in Yangyang, and I felt like I found my calling.″

He elaborated on the success of his bar, stating, ″It’s like she suddenly appeared, but I think the people who came liked it because I liked it. I really wanted to sing, so I sang there. It’s a space I created for that purpose.″ This passion for music and the welcoming atmosphere contributed to the bar’s popularity.

Jo Jazz also explained the decision to relocate his bar from Itaewon to Hannam-dong. ″At first, it was in Itaewon, but it rained and flooded. The owner of the building offered to refund my money and asked if I wanted to try somewhere else. I was at a loss, but then I decided I had to give it a try.″ He added, ″I was also doing interior design, but when I moved to Hannam-dong, I started focusing on this full-time. Having my own space was really great. I loved singing and meeting people in this space. It’s a meaningful space for me, and more than anything, it’s a precious place.″

Reflecting on his first encounter with his wife, Jo Jazz recalled, ″We met as a customer at my store three months after moving to Hannam-dong.″ He described the moment, saying, ″She just casually touched my belly. I was wearing a trench coat, and there were only beautiful women there that day. I was in a good mood, so I sang a song and walked over, and naturally, my trench coat came off.″

Jo Jazz revealed that his wife played a crucial role in his decision to pursue a singing career. ″You might not believe it, but it wasn’t me who confessed first. My wife confessed first, and of course, I confessed later.″ He reflected on the challenges of running his store during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing, ″I was contemplating whether to move, but my wife said, ’Let’s stay here for another year. I think you can do what you’re good at and love,’ and that gave me the courage to do it.″

Thanks to his wife’s encouragement, Jo Jazz developed connections with celebrities, including composer Ahn Young-min, which helped launch his singing career. ″A few days later, celebrities came to visit, and I met composer Ahn Young-min of ’Don’t You Know?’ It was a miraculous moment, and I became a singer,″ he explained.

Throughout the interview, Jo Jazz repeatedly expressed his gratitude to his wife, highlighting her significant influence on both his personal life and professional journey.
