
BTS’ Jungkook’s first solo album, ″GOLDEN,″ has made history by topping Hanteo Chart’s All-Time Best-Selling Albums list for solo artists. Released in November 2023, ″GOLDEN″ achieved an impressive 15th place on Hanteo Chart’s Top 100 All-Time Best-Selling Albums list, marking it as the highest-ranking album among solo artists. Jungkook stands out as the only solo artist to break into the Top 20, surpassing numerous groups.
In a remarkable feat, ″GOLDEN″ sold over 2 million copies within just five hours of its release, earning the title of ″Double Million Seller.″ It became the first solo album to reach the top spot among K-pop solo artists based solely on first-day sales. Over a two-week period, the album sold a total of 2,501,158 copies, making it the first solo album to exceed 2.5 million copies in 13 years since Hanteo Chart updated its charting methodology in 2010.
Additionally, ″GOLDEN″ held the top position among K-pop solo albums in the US for two consecutive years, from 2023 to 2024. Jungkook’s ″GOLDEN″ LP, released in November 2024, sold over 10,300 copies in the US, setting a new record for the highest-selling debut LP by a K-pop male solo artist. This year, Jungkook also set a record for the most pure albums sold in the US.
With ″GOLDEN,″ Jungkook has become the highest-selling K-pop solo artist of all time, achieving 9.2 million album sales (EAS). The album has spent an impressive 91 consecutive weeks on Spotify’s ″Weekly Top Albums Global″ chart, the longest run for an Asian solo artist. It also became the first Asian solo album to surpass 5.9 billion cumulative streams on Spotify.
″GOLDEN″ debuted at number two on Billboard’s main album chart, the Billboard 200, and set a record for the longest 25-week run by an Asian solo artist. It also maintained its presence on the UK’s Official Top 100 Albums Chart for eight weeks, marking the longest run by a K-pop solo artist.
At the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, Jungkook won the Top K-Pop Album award for ″GOLDEN.″ The album received accolades from various outlets, being named one of Rolling Stone’s ″Best Songs of 2023,″ MTV’s ″Record-Breaking Albums of 2023,″ the New York Times’ ″Best Albums of 2023,″ and Uproxx’s ″Best Albums of 2023.″
