Singer Lee Seung-hwan delivered an emotional speech at the inauguration ceremony for the 21st President Lee Jae-myung, which took place at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on August 15th. The event, themed ″The Light We Found Together, Illuminating the Republic of Korea,″ marked the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation. Approximately 10,000 attendees included 80 representatives from various sectors, former President Moon Jae-in and his wife, as well as Kwon Yang-sook, the wife of former President Roh Moo-hyun.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Lee Seung-hwan performed and expressed his pride in the nation, stating, ″I’m so proud of our country. It’s the democracy we created.″ He highlighted the cultural appreciation that has resonated globally, saying, ″I’m so proud of those of us who truly appreciate our culture.″ Lee’s optimism shone through as he remarked, ″I’ve always stood in the square for bad news, but to stand here for good news feels like a dream and an honor.″

Reflecting on the past, he noted, ″After a harsh, cold, and anxious winter, my heart now beats with a sense of stability and anticipation for the future.″ He also shared a heartfelt confession, saying, ″I think everyone feels the same way,″ before proclaiming, ″I love you, long live the Republic of Korea.″

Lee Seung-hwan has been an outspoken figure in political matters, publicly supporting the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol during a candlelight vigil in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on December 13th of last year. He was also actively involved in the movement to oust former President Park Geun-hye in 2016.
