Koyote recently attracted attention by participating in an interview test for rookie announcers on the KBS2 program ″Boss’s Ears Are Donkey Ears,″ which aired on the 17th. The show’s host, Uhm Ji-in, was searching for a replacement announcer for ″Morning Yard,″ and Koyote members Kim Jong-min, Shinji, and Baekga showcased their experience and composure during the test.
Before the test began, Kim Jong-min recalled an uncomfortable question he had faced from KBS announcers in the past: ″Mr. Jong-min, you’re going to the military, right? You have a pimple on your face, don’t you?″ When Uhm Ji-in playfully asked if he was Jeon Hyun-moo, Kim Jong-min humorously confirmed, prompting laughter in the room. He reminisced, ″The pimple question lasted five minutes,″ highlighting the awkwardness of the moment.
The rookie announcers introduced Koyote’s new song ″Call Me″ and encouraged Kim Jong-min to sing it. He appeared embarrassed, stating, ″The chorus part isn’t my part,″ while Shinji joked, ″Most of the singing is done by me.″ The announcers’ attempt to get Kim Jong-min to perform ended in failure, creating a light-hearted yet disoriented atmosphere on set.
Baekga shared a story about their teamwork, mentioning how he initially struggled with Koyote’s style coming from JYP but eventually grew to love their unique music. Uhm Ji-in added an impromptu hip-hop assignment, which created a slightly awkward situation. Despite this, the tension between the rookie announcers and Koyote ultimately served as a growth opportunity. Uhm Ji-in had previously asked, ″It’s okay if I get a little louder to see how nervous I am on live.″
After the test, Uhm Ji-in demonstrated a technique herself and continued the interview. Koyote’s candid and witty responses showcased their skills as interviewers. When Uhm Ji-in suggested that Kim Jong-min might feel some pressure from the elders now that he is older, he humorously replied, ″What? A child?″ and added, ″I’m thinking about it. I’m dieting to stay healthy.″
Uhm Ji-in then inquired about Kim Jong-min’s thoughts on having a second child. Baekga cleverly responded, ″So, I’m working out for now,″ and added, ″Even if you get married late, you can have a second child first, right?″ This sparked laughter on set and generated buzz for the segment.
Following the audition, Uhm Ji-in asked Koyote for feedback on the new announcers, specifically if they could identify the standout performer. Shinji humorously remarked, ″Everything else was fine, but Uhm Ji-in was the most uncomfortable.″
As Korea’s longest-running mixed group, Koyote demonstrated their composure and chemistry during the audition. With the recent release of their new song ″Call Me,″ Koyote has reaffirmed their status as a national group by topping various music charts. They are also set to embark on a nationwide concert tour, the ″2025 Koyote Festival,″ starting in September, where they will connect with fans in person.
