At a media showcase held at M Cube in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 21st, Min Ji-woon shared his thoughts on receiving a meeting offer from SM Entertainment. He expressed, ″I was shocked and taken aback.″ Min Ji-woon began his career as the first artist under SM Entertainment’s label, Crucialize. Although he had been quietly pursuing his music career since the release of his digital single ″Home Run″ in 2018, the offer from SM marked a significant turning point for him.
Min Ji-woon revealed that SM was drawn to him through the cover songs and original compositions he shared on his personal social media. He noted, ″During the meeting, I heard your aspiration to ’expand SM’s spectrum with R&B music,’ and that’s when I decided to join.″ He emphasized the joy of collaborating with his teammates and sharing his insights on music production.
Joining Crucialize in October of last year, Min Ji-woon released his first single, ″Sentimental Love,″ and continued to promote actively with new singles ″Someone″ and ″If You Were the Rain″ in December and March, respectively. Now, he is set to release his first mini-album, ″Pink, Then Gray,″ contributing to the writing and composition of all the tracks.
Min Ji-woon expressed, ″It’s been my dream to release an album. I’m thrilled and relieved to have achieved this dream.″ He aimed to convey his sincerity through the songs and focused on creating fresh expressions throughout the album.
The mini-album features six tracks, including the double title tracks ″Scared of Love″ and ″Bye Bye.″ Min Ji-woon explained, ″I wanted to express through music the process of a love that was as soft as pink, but then transformed into achromatic over time.″
″Scared of Love″ is a pop R&B track that captures the excitement and anxiety of a new romance. Min Ji-woon described the song, saying, ″The more you listen to it, the more you want to hear it,″ and noted that he selected it as the title track early on.
″Bye Bye″ is characterized by its urban contemporary R&B sound, featuring a heavy 808 bass, guitar, and vocal samples. Min Ji-woon stated that the song ″definitively tells the story of a love that’s over.″ He added, ″I chose ’Scared of Love’ and ’Bye Bye’ as double title tracks because they complement each other well.″
The album is set to be released on the 22nd. Min Ji-woon identified his musical strength as ″a tone that’s neither too low nor too high, but still subtle and unique.″ He expressed his aspiration to evolve into a diva capable of expressing his music with style, drawing inspiration from artists like Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Amy Winehouse.
Looking ahead, Min Ji-woon mentioned NCT’s Mark as an SM artist he hopes to collaborate with in the future, stating, ″He recently released an album with a story that he personally directed. I think we would have great chemistry if we worked together.″
