Lee So-eun returns after 20 years, discusses postpartum struggles in New York and her return to music.


Singer Lee So-eun, who has transitioned into a new career as a lawyer, recently shared her experiences with marriage, childbirth, and parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the 25th, she appeared on the YouTube channel ″Not Hateful Sister Gwanjong,″ where she opened up about various personal stories.

Reflecting on the birth of her first daughter, Lee So-eun expressed her joy during pregnancy, but also the challenges she faced when her due date coincided with New York’s lockdown. She recounted her devastation upon learning that her husband, a medical professional, would not be allowed in the delivery room. Ultimately, she left New York to give birth at a small hospital near her in-laws’ home.

After giving birth, Lee So-eun faced additional challenges. She had to be discharged within 24 hours, and her family of three returned to New York within a week, which proved difficult without any help. Her husband, who found a recipe for seaweed soup on YouTube, took on cooking duties during this time. Lee So-eun admitted, ″It was a very difficult time,″ and shared her longing for her mother, who couldn’t visit due to COVID-19 restrictions. Thankfully, her mother was able to come a few weeks later, providing much-needed support.

Life after childbirth was not easy for Lee So-eun, as her husband had to go to the hospital daily. They had to sleep in separate rooms to minimize infection risk, and he couldn’t hold their baby. Despite these hardships, she maintained a positive outlook and emphasized the importance of family.

Since her debut in 1998, Lee So-eun has been beloved for hit songs like ″Seobangnim″ (My Love from the West) and ″Miracle.″ After a 20-year hiatus, she reconnected with fans through her new album, ″Lee So-eun’s Sight - Notes on a Poem.″ Fans expressed their support online, commenting on her elegant image and the touching portrayal of motherhood, with many expressing joy at hearing her voice again.

Lee So-eun also shared how she met her husband shortly after arriving in New York while working at a cultural arts non-profit during her first year at a law firm. She highlighted the significance of family by recounting her daughter’s birth in April 2020, shortly after her marriage.

Her candid experiences resonate with many, offering comfort to parents navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
