Ma Dong-seok's 'Twelve' scores huge ratings from the first broadcast

The two dramas that premiered on the 23rd showed contrasting results in ratings after just two episodes. KBS's "Twelve" and tvN's "The Tyrant's Chef" each began their first broadcasts. "Twelve" is an action hero drama starring Ma Dong-seok, depicting the story of 12 angels fighting against evil forces. Ma Dong-seok plays the leader of the 12 angels, Tiger Taesan, and the cast includes Park Hyung-sik, Seo In-guk, Sung Dong-il, Kang Mina, and Go Kyu-pil.

On the other hand, "The Tyrant's Chef" is a fantasy romance about a chef who time-slips to his prime and engages in a survival battle with a tyrant. Im Yoon-ah and newcomer Lee Chae-min star in the drama. In the first broadcast, "Twelve" recorded a rating of 8.1%, showing a strong start. This is analyzed to be largely due to the public's high expectations for Ma Dong-seok. "The Tyrant's Chef" started with 4.9%, recording a relatively low figure.

However, the situation reversed in the second episode. "The Tyrant's Chef" rose to 6.6% in episode 2, taking first place in the same time slot. Meanwhile, "Twelve" dropped to 5.9%, falling to second place. It appears that it failed to secure a fixed viewer base after the first broadcast. The difference in ratings between the two dramas after the first episode was 3.2%, but after the second episode, "The Tyrant's Chef" overtook it with a lead of 0.7%.

According to the OTT ranking site FlixPatrol, "The Tyrant's Chef" ranked first in 41 countries worldwide, becoming the number one Netflix global TV series. It also entered the top 10 in 93 countries where the service is available, receiving a strong response. Meanwhile, "Twelve" is available for rewatching on Disney+, but its global ranking was only 9th.

The success of "The Tyrant's Chef" is analyzed to be due to Netflix's broader subscriber base and the significant impact on OTT services. This situation is expected to act as a factor increasing the potential for "The Tyrant's Chef" to continue rising in ratings.

Attention is focused on the ratings trends of the two dramas in upcoming episodes. It remains to be seen whether "The Tyrant's Chef" will maintain its upward momentum or if "Twelve" can regain viewers. The changes in ratings of the two works are expected to have a significant impact on the future trends of the broadcasting market.
