Singer Jennie has become the K-pop solo artist with the most certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). On July 26 (local time), the RIAA announced on its official website that Jennie's single "Mantra" and the title track of her first solo full-length album, "Like JENNIE," each received Gold certification. With this, Jennie has earned a total of three certifications from the RIAA, setting the record for the most RIAA certifications among K-pop solo artists.
Jennie previously received Platinum certification for her collaboration track "One Of The Girls" with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp. This further highlights Jennie's musical achievements. In March, Jennie set a new milestone in K-pop history with her first solo full-length album "Ruby," which recorded the highest first-week sales of 661,130 copies among female K-pop solo artists this year.
Among the songs included in the "Ruby" album, five tracks—"Like JENNIE," "Mantra," "Love Hangover (feat. Dominic Fike)," "ExtraL (feat. Doechii)," and "Handlebars (feat. Dua Lipa)"—entered the Billboard main singles chart, the "HOT 100." This is seen as a result that further strengthens the influence of K-pop artists in the global market.
The RIAA awards certifications based on digital single and album sales, with Gold for over 500,000 units, Platinum for over 1 million units, Multi-Platinum for over 2 million units, and Diamond for over 10 million units. Unit counts are calculated by weighting album (physical/digital) sales, digital downloads, and audio and video streaming.
Jennie's achievements contribute to the global spread of K-pop and elevate the status of female artists. Jennie holds a unique position in the K-pop market, and great expectations are gathering for her future activities.
