The OST song "Golden" from the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (hereinafter "Kedehun") has ranked number one on the US Billboard main singles chart "Hot 100" for four consecutive weeks. According to the Billboard chart released on the 8th (local time), "Golden" topped the chart, surpassing Alex Warren's "Ordinary" and Sabrina Carpenter's new song "Tears."
Since its first entry on the "Hot 100," "Golden" has stayed on the chart for 11 consecutive weeks, starting at 81st place and then ranking 23rd, 6th, 4th, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, and 1st. The song has held the number one spot for four non-consecutive weeks, surpassing BTS's "Dynamite," which held number one for three weeks in 2020. Currently, the only K-pop genre song that has held the number one spot on the "Hot 100" for a longer period than "Golden" is BTS's "Butter" (10 weeks).
In addition to "Golden," the "Kedehun" OST features "Your Idol" at 4th place, "Soda Pop" at 5th, and "How It's Done" at 9th, with a total of four songs entering the top 10. Billboard reported, "'Kedehun' is the first soundtrack in the 67-year history of the 'Hot 100' to have four songs simultaneously enter the top 10." Furthermore, it is the first time since 1977's "Saturday Night Fever" and 1995's "Waiting to Exhale" that a movie OST has had three songs enter the top 10 of the Billboard singles chart.
"Golden" is also gaining attention by holding the number one spot for five consecutive weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart "Top 100." This is the first time a K-pop genre song has ranked number one on the Official Chart since Psy's "Gangnam Style" in 2012, which is seen as another proof of K-pop's global influence.
These achievements reflect the worldwide popularity of K-pop and indicate that the "Kedehun" OST holds an important position in the music market. Along with the continuous growth of K-pop, these records are likely to set new milestones in the future. The increasing presence of K-pop artists on global music charts signifies the expanding influence of Korean popular culture.
The success of the "Kedehun" OST will further strengthen K-pop's position in the global market. K-pop has now become more than just a music genre; it has established itself as a cultural phenomenon in many countries around the world. With the development of K-pop, more artists are expected to stand out on global music charts in the future.
