BLACKPINK Rosé wins 'Song of the Year' at MTV VMA for the first time ever

Rosé of the group BLACKPINK became the first K-pop artist to win the 'Song of the Year' award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (hereinafter MTV VMA), one of the four major music award shows in the United States. On the 8th, Rosé received the award for "Apartment," a song she performed with Bruno Mars, at the ceremony held at UBS Arena in New York, USA.

In her acceptance speech, Rosé said, "I can't believe it," and expressed her gratitude by saying, "First of all, I am really thankful to Bruno, who believed in me and helped me." She continued, "I am happy to receive this award as it is a moment that rewards all the efforts so far," and added, "Teddy oppa, I won an award. BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, I won an award. I am always grateful and love you."

At this ceremony, Rosé was nominated in seven categories for "Apartment": Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects, making her a nominee in a total of eight categories. Rosé's first trophy was awarded in the Song of the Year category.

Rosé is the first K-pop singer to win in the Song of the Year category. Previously, BTS was nominated for the mega-hit "Dynamite" in 2021 but did not win. Rosé was also nominated for Video of the Year, the highest honor of the ceremony, competing against Ariana Grande's "Brighter Days Ahead," Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather," Rama's "Not Like Us," Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' "Die with a Smile," Carpenter's "Manchild," and The Weeknd & Playboi Carti's "Timeless."

Lisa also lifted a trophy alongside Rosé. Lisa won the Best K-pop category trophy this year for "Born Again," a collaboration with Doja Cat and Raye. This marks Lisa's third win following "Lalisa" in 2022 and "NEW WOMAN" in 2024. All former BLACKPINK members have previously been nominated in this category.

Rosé's "Toxic Till The End" was nominated for Best K-pop, competing against Jennie's "Like Jennie," Jisoo's "Earthquake," aespa's "Whiplash," BTS Jimin's "Who," and Stray Kids' "Chk Chk Boom."

This award is expected to further elevate the global status of K-pop. As a member of BLACKPINK, Rosé has proven her influence in the global music market and once again emphasized the achievements of K-pop artists. MTV VMA is one of the most prestigious music award shows in the United States, and Rosé's win is recorded as a new milestone for K-pop.

Rosé plans to continue her activities as a leading K-pop artist. BLACKPINK will further strengthen the status of K-pop through global tours and various music projects. This MTV VMA win will remain a testament to BLACKPINK's ongoing success and the global expansion of K-pop.
