Im Yoon-ah conquers ratings in 42 countries with 'The Tyrant's Chef'

Im Yoon-ah revealed that she is truly feeling the popularity of the tvN drama "Tyrant's Chef." On the 10th, she appeared on the tvN variety show "You Quiz on the Block" and explained her role as Yeon Ji-young, mentioning the drama's successful achievements. "Tyrant's Chef" has ranked number one in 42 countries worldwide and has been breaking its own highest viewership ratings with each episode.

Im Yoon-ah said, "These days, the first thing I do when I open my eyes is check the ratings. When the ratings are released, I even wake up from sleep to refresh and watch." She added that this was one of the moments she truly felt the drama's popularity, especially when people on the street call her "Yeon Ji-young" or say, "It must be hard practicing Taekwondo, right?"

She also shared her feelings about appearing on "You Quiz" for the first time in four years. She said, "Honestly, I didn't really feel the popularity until I got the call to appear on 'You Quiz,' and then I definitely realized it." She mentioned that members of Girls' Generation also contacted her saying they were watching, adding, "Since Tiffany's birthday and Girls' Generation's debut anniversary are close, when we take group photos and post them on SNS, many people really like it."

Im Yoon-ah revealed behind-the-scenes stories of "Tyrant's Chef." She explained that she wanted to work with director Jang Tae-yoo and received the original web novel early last year. "From the initial stage, it felt like we were walking together, so it was a project I had a special affection for," she said. She practiced cooking at a culinary academy starting three months before filming and also learned acting from an advisory chef. She emphasized, "Since cooking is the medium through which the story unfolds, cooking was really important. I had to incorporate acting while fully understanding the cooking process."

She also mentioned scenes that included her own ideas, such as the scene where the masters eat jujubes to maintain discipline and the scene where she shoots Lee Heon (played by Lee Chae-min). Yoo Jae-suk asked about co-star Lee Chae-min, saying, "I heard he was cast just a month before filming," and Im Yoon-ah replied, "He felt like a righteous young man. Even though his preparation time was short, seeing him fully equipped and appearing on set made me think he was truly Lee Heon."

Im Yoon-ah has established herself as an actress not only through the drama but also with her film debut "Confidential Assignment" and "Exit," which attracted 9.42 million viewers. Regarding prejudices against idol-turned-actors, she said, "There may be such views, but my biggest thought was that I just need to do well." This reflects her strong determination, and she is expected to continue actively participating in various projects in the future.
