Former national fencing representative Nam Hyun-hee has been cleared of the false accusation of being an accomplice in her ex-boyfriend Jeon Cheong-jo's fraud case. On September 12, the 3rd Civil Division of the Seongnam Branch of Suwon District Court dismissed the plaintiff's claims in the damages lawsuit filed against Nam Hyun-hee. The case began when plaintiff A, who suffered damages after being deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo, accused Nam Hyun-hee of being an accomplice.

Son Su-ho, attorney at the law firm Jihyuk and legal representative of Nam Hyun-hee, announced on his social media on September 13, "Director Nam Hyun-hee won the entire damages lawsuit related to the Jeon Cheong-jo case." Attorney Son explained, "It has been confirmed by the court that Nam Hyun-hee was also a victim who was deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo's lies."

Plaintiff A was deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo's investment proposal and transferred a total of 1.1 billion KRW. It is known that A was lured by Jeon Cheong-jo's claim that "investing in unlisted stocks will yield high returns every month and guarantee the principal after one year." However, after Jeon Cheong-jo's fraudulent activities were exposed, A filed a lawsuit claiming that Nam Hyun-hee knowingly aided and abetted.

The court stated, "It appears that Nam Hyun-hee believed Jeon Cheong-jo was truly a third-generation chaebol," and "Nam Hyun-hee, like the plaintiff, was unaware of Jeon Cheong-jo's true nature." As a result, Nam Hyun-hee was cleared of the label of being an accomplice to Jeon Cheong-jo.

Nam Hyun-hee was expelled from the Seoul Fencing Association in June last year and received a seven-year suspension of coaching qualifications from the Seoul Sports Council in August of the same year. She is prohibited from coaching activities from August 22, 2024, to August 21, 2031. Nam Hyun-hee's side expressed hope that this ruling would serve as an opportunity to remove wrongful stigma and misunderstandings and mark a new beginning.

Jeon Cheong-jo was indicted on charges of defrauding 27 people of more than 3 billion KRW by falsely claiming to be an illegitimate child of a chaebol family. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison last November for fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. Jeon Cheong-jo deceived victims by alternating between male and female identities during his fraudulent activities.

This case caused a major stir due to suspicions that Nam Hyun-hee was involved in Jeon Cheong-jo's fraud case. By proving her innocence in court, Nam Hyun-hee has cleared her name. Attorney Son stated, "We will continue to do our best for the benefit of our client."

The court clearly stated that Nam Hyun-hee was not involved in aiding Jeon Cheong-jo's fraud. The court ruled, "Nam Hyun-hee did not directly mention anything related to the investment," and "There is no evidence that the plaintiff intentionally aided the fraud."

It was also emphasized that Nam Hyun-hee was unaware of Jeon Cheong-jo's true identity. The court stated, "Nam Hyun-hee did not know that Jeon Cheong-jo was receiving investment funds from people around her."

This case attracted significant social attention and became an opportunity to clear Nam Hyun-hee's grievances. Through this ruling, Nam Hyun-hee has restored her reputation and expectations for her future activities have increased.

The Jeon Cheong-jo case remains a social issue, and further legal proceedings are expected. Nam Hyun-hee is determined to make a fresh start based on this ruling.
