The OST of the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has achieved two major records on the U.S. Billboard charts. This OST reached number one on both the Billboard main singles chart, the "Hot 100," and the album chart, the "Billboard 200." This is the first time in about five years since BTS simultaneously topped both charts with "BE" and "Life Goes On."
According to the Billboard chart released on the 14th (local time), the "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST ranked number one on the "Billboard 200." The album rose to the top after 12 weeks, having debuted at number eight. It stayed at number two for the past six weeks but eventually reached number one, once again proving the status of K-pop.
The "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST is recorded as the first case since BTS where K-pop simultaneously topped both the "Billboard 200" and the "Hot 100." The album has maintained the number one spot on the "Hot 100" for four consecutive weeks with the song "Golden" as of last week. The golden age of K-pop is reopening.
The "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST is recorded as the seventh animation OST to reach number one since the "Billboard 200" chart began regular publication in March 1956. Previous animation OSTs that reached number one include "The Lion King" (1994), "Pocahontas" (1995), "Curious George" (2006), "Frozen 1" (2014), and "Frozen 2" (2019). The most recent record was the OST for "Encanto" released in 2022.
Since its release on June 20, "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has been setting multiple records. Earlier this month, it surpassed "Squid Game 1" to become the most-watched content across both Netflix movies and shows.
To celebrate these achievements, a special sing-along screening of "K-Pop Demon Hunters" will be held at the 30th Busan International Film Festival opening on the 17th. Director Maggie Kang is expected to attend this event. This animation, which features K-pop and traditional Korean culture, is gaining great popularity both domestically and internationally, and its future path is being closely watched.
