Singer Uhm Jung-hwa opened up about the difficult time she experienced due to vocal cord nodules. In a video posted on June 14 on the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jaehyung,' Uhm Jung-hwa detailed her pain during a conversation with Jung Jae-hyung and Jung Seung-hwan. She said, "I really want to sing, but I'm worried about my voice." She added, "I received training help, but I was too weak to make a sound."

Uhm Jung-hwa recalled, "Because of the vocal cord nodules, I have my own singing style. It's okay to hit high notes raw, but the mid-range felt very weak." She said, "They told me, 'You can't sing anymore.' It was hard to even make a sound, and my pitch was going lower. I broke down and cried for days." Amid these difficulties, she met a specialist doctor who told her, "You can definitely sing. Why can't you?" Uhm Jung-hwa shared, "I practiced making sounds while crying a lot. When the teacher said that, I thought, 'Maybe I can do it.'"

Uhm Jung-hwa expressed her feelings, saying, "I hate it the most when people say I can't do it." She added, "There are people who can lead even the same words positively. When someone says, 'You can't sing anymore,' it feels bad and like your life is over." Regarding her experience recording songs during her vocal cord nodule condition at the suggestion of jazz pianist Jung Won-young, she said, "I don't know why I said let's sing," but expressed gratitude. Jung Jae-hyung comforted her, saying, "I cried when I heard that song."

Reflecting on her past as a dance singer, Uhm Jung-hwa said, "I was part of the MBC choir when I was young, but after debuting, I never heard that I sang well. It's frustrating that I didn't realize I was good back then." Jung Jae-hyung encouraged her, saying, "Everyone talks about hurting their throat like this. You don't need to get depressed. The voice is you, it's Uhm Jung-hwa."

Uhm Jung-hwa expressed her ambition, saying, "For the next album, I want to create it without hiding my uncomfortable voice, just as it comes out." She underwent thyroid cancer surgery in 2010 and suffered aftereffects of vocal cord paralysis but was able to make sounds again after rehabilitation. She resumed activities by releasing her 10th full-length album in 2016.
