Kedeheon OST, No.1 on Billboard 200... Korean Music Captivating the World

The Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (hereinafter "KPDH"), featuring a K-pop group as the main characters, has set another record on the U.S. Billboard charts. According to the Billboard chart on the 14th (local time), the "KPDH" OST album reached number one on the main album chart, the "Billboard 200." The album debuted at number eight in its first week of release, then held the number two spot for seven non-consecutive weeks before climbing to number one on this week's chart.

The song "Golden," included in the OST album, has held the number one position on Billboard's main singles chart, the "Hot 100," for a total of four weeks. As a result, the "KPDH" OST achieved the rare feat of topping both the singles and albums charts. The song also secured the number one spot for six weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart "Top 100," simultaneously dominating the major pop markets in both the U.S. and the UK.

Billboard reported, "This is the seventh time an OST album has reached the top of the 'Billboard 200,'" adding, "It is the first time in three years since 'Encanto' in 2022." The rise in album rankings was positively influenced by sing-along screenings held across the U.S. and the re-release of a deluxe version of the album. Additionally, an LP release is scheduled for October 17.

"KPDH" tells the story of Lumi, Mira, and Joy, members of the K-pop group Huntrix, who create "Honmun" through music, singing, and dancing to protect the world from the threat of evil spirits. The project took seven years to produce and has attracted attention since its release. Recently, it surpassed "Squid Game" Season 1 on Netflix to become the most-watched content of all time.

The success of "KPDH" has sparked global interest in Korean culture, including elements featured in the work such as the "gat" and "hanbok." This has further expanded the global influence of K-pop and Korean culture.

On the afternoon of the 7th, at the waterside stage of Ttukseom Hangang Park in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, over 1,200 drones illuminated the night sky over the Han River in a "2025 Hangang Light Show (Drone Light Show)" themed around "KPDH." This event has become a highlight that further emphasizes the popularity of K-pop.

The success of the "KPDH" OST is contributing to strengthening K-pop's position in the global market. Interest in Korean culture is rising alongside the expansion of K-pop's fan base, and this trend is expected to continue. The growing global recognition of K-pop groups and Korean content will have a positive impact on future cultural exchanges.

Such success stories are expected to further promote investment and support for Korea's cultural content industry. The worldwide spread of K-pop and Korean culture will continue, serving as an opportunity to elevate Korea's cultural status even more.
