Kim Jaejoong's mother repays debt with handmade jokbal and sujebi

Kim Jaejoong made the "100 Million Won Table" with his mother. On the September 19th broadcast of KBS 2TV's "New Product Launch, Pyeonstorang," Kim Jaejoong appeared with his mother to showcase a special dish. During the show, Kim Jaejoong's mother shared her past story with her son. She explained how Kim Jaejoong's father fell into debt of 100 million won due to a business failure and, after falling ill, entered a temple. Kim Jaejoong's mother had to raise nine siblings alone and, after years of hardship, managed to pay off the entire 100 million won debt in about a year solely through her cooking skills.

Kim Jaejoong's mother attracted the taste buds of government officials by selling jokbal (pig's trotters), sujebi (hand-pulled dough soup), barley rice, and more. Unexpected good fortune followed, leading to tremendous sales. Kim Jaejoong and his mother prepared the "100 Million Won Table" that revived their household together. The mother made "100 Million Won Sujebi," while Kim Jaejoong reinvented jokbal and kimchi pancakes with his own recipes. In particular, Kim Jaejoong revealed a tip of adding dried squid to kimchi pancakes, catching viewers' attention.

Kim Jaejoong and his mother reminisced about the past while dining with his older sisters. Kim Jaejoong proudly mentioned the popularity of his mother's restaurant, saying, "Back then, if you said 'Take me to Tongil Restaurant' at the Gongju terminal, they would take you there." His mother recalled, "Fans from all over the world—China, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia—came all the way to Gongju. Since 20 to 30 fans came at a time, I even cooked noodles for them," reflecting on the days of running the restaurant. She added with a smile, "More people came to see me than to eat. I was really good at managing fans."

Kim Jaejoong's mother opened up about their impoverished family history on "Pyeonstorang." The KBS 2TV variety show "New Product Launch, Pyeonstorang," airing on the 19th, will be a special "Mom's Hands" episode in celebration of the national holiday Chuseok. On this episode, Kim Jaejoong and Park Tae-hwan will cook with their mothers. Kim Jaejoong's mother will reveal the "100 Million Won Table" that captivated the taste buds of Gongju citizens and supported nine siblings.

On the show, Kim Jaejoong's parents shared a shocking story even he did not know. After Kim Jaejoong's father incurred over 100 million won in debt due to a failed business, the family's livelihood became uncertain, and Kim Jaejoong's mother took responsibility for supporting nine siblings. Hearing this story for the first time, Kim Jaejoong was moved and said, "Mom, you're amazing."

Kim Jaejoong's mother said she paid off the entire 100 million won debt in about a year after starting the restaurant business. At that time, 100 million won was a significant amount compared to now. She attracted government officials' tastes by selling jokbal, sujebi, barley rice, and more, and unexpected good fortune led to a rapid increase in sales. Lee Yeon-bok expressed amazement, saying, "This is a story of an ordinary person becoming wealthy."

Kim Jaejoong recalled his elementary school days when his mother's restaurant business was so successful that he delivered food, saying, "I was embarrassed..." and regretted those times. He asked his mother to make the food they used to eat at the restaurant after a long time. The "Pyeonstorang" staff who watched Kim Jaejoong's mother's "100 Million Won Table" recipe marveled, saying, "If you opened a restaurant now, it would do well," and "I definitely want to try it."

"Pyeonstorang" will air on the 19th at 8:30 PM.
