Netflix's K-pop Demon Hunters OST

The OST "Golden" from the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has set a record by reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the sixth time. On the 22nd (local time), Billboard announced through a chart preview article that "Golden" topped the Hot 100 for the sixth week overall, maintaining its position at number one from the previous week. "Golden" first entered the chart at number 81 in July, has remained on the chart for 13 consecutive weeks, and has held the top spot for five consecutive weeks so far.

The Hot 100 chart ranks songs based on a combination of streaming data, radio airplay, and sales data within the United States. Therefore, reaching number one on the Hot 100 signifies that the song has gained widespread popularity. Billboard explained, "'Golden' holds the record for the longest time at number one on the Billboard charts for a song performed by an animated character."

In addition to "Golden," three other songs from the "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST entered the Top 10: "Soda Pop" at number 5, "Your Idol" at number 6, and "How It's Done" at number 10. This is an unprecedented achievement for OST tracks. "Golden" has also held the number one spot on the Streaming Songs chart for nine weeks, ranks 16th on the Radio Songs chart, and is number two on the Digital Song Sales chart.

"K-Pop Demon Hunters" tells the story of the K-pop idol group Huntrix defeating evil spirits and protecting the world through their music. The animation has been praised for its engaging portrayal of Korean culture, including K-pop. The series became the most-watched content on Netflix, surpassing popular titles such as "Squid Game" and "Wednesday."

On the Hot 100 chart dated the 27th, "Golden" recorded its fifth consecutive week at number one and its sixth week overall at the top. Among K-pop songs, only BTS's "Butter" in 2021 has held the number one spot on the Hot 100 for more than five weeks. "Golden" climbed from its debut at number 81 to 23, 6, 4, 2, and then to number one. After reaching number one, it dropped to number two once but quickly reclaimed the top spot, maintaining it for five consecutive weeks.

Last week, "Golden" became the longest-running number one animated song in the 67-year history of the Hot 100 chart. This week, it broke that record by holding the number one spot for six weeks, surpassing the five-week record set by "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the animated film "Encanto." Additionally, it became the longest-running number one OST song in ten years since "See You Again," the main OST of the 2015 film "Furious 7."

"Soda Pop" and "Your Idol," performed by Huntrix's rival group the Saja Boys, ranked fifth and sixth respectively, while Huntrix's "How It's Done" took the tenth spot. This week, the OST continued its record as the first OST to have four songs simultaneously enter the Top 10 in Billboard Hot 100 history.

These achievements further solidify the global popularity of K-pop. The "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST is expected to continue its success on the charts. The influence of K-pop continues to expand, contributing to the worldwide spread of Korean culture.
