On September 25, Lee Hong-gi revealed through social media, "I was supposed to go to the Dongguk University festival today, but I couldn't because I almost had a vocal cord rupture. I feel very sorry for hurting the precious memories of the Dongguk University students." He added, "I will definitely make up for the time I hurt. I am truly sorry to the Dongguk University officials, students, and fans who waited."

Lee Hong-gi recently announced his casting in the musical Sugar. Sugar is based on the comedy film Some Like It Hot and is set during the Prohibition era of 1929. The story depicts the mishaps that occur after two jazz musicians witness a gang murder and disguise themselves as women to join an all-female band for survival.

In the play, Lee Hong-gi plays Joe (Josephine), a romantic saxophonist. He takes on a character who cross-dresses and plans to portray Joe's complex traits—sharp intelligence and cheerful, unexpected charm—with a profound performance.

Lee Hong-gi has demonstrated outstanding vocal and acting skills in various productions such as The Days, I Loved You, Return, Jack the Ripper, Mata Hari, Harlan County, and Your Lie in April. Through Sugar, he is expected to captivate audiences with an even broader acting range and solid vocals.

The musical Sugar will be performed at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater from December 12 to February 22, 2026. This production promises to offer audiences an enjoyable experience.
