Lee Moon-sae conveys a message of deep sorrow for Jeon Yu-seong


Singer Lee Moon-sae expressed his condolences upon the news of the passing of the late comedian Jeon Yoo-sung. On the 27th, Lee Moon-sae announced Jeon Yoo-sung's death and expressed his sorrow through his social media. He stated, "I received the heartbreaking news of a farewell just before my Vancouver performance." He continued, "A few days ago, I received a short message from my older brother asking, 'Can you come? I miss you.' I promised to visit him once I returned to Korea after the performance, but my brother's personality is quite impatient." Lee Moon-sae said he was stunned by Jeon Yoo-sung's sudden death.

Lee Moon-sae recalled Jeon Yoo-sung as "a truly great figure in the popular culture industry," adding, "He paved the way for me to do music and appear on broadcasts, and he has always cared for and looked after me." He added, "Older brother Jeon Yoo-sung gave me great love that I could never repay." Lee Moon-sae mourned, "I hope you rest peacefully now in a place without pain. I will definitely visit you when I go to Korea."

The late Jeon Yoo-sung passed away at 9:05 p.m. on the 25th at the age of 76. After undergoing pneumothorax surgery in June, his health deteriorated, and he had been receiving hospital treatment. The funeral hall was set up in Room 1 of the Seoul Asan Hospital Funeral Hall, and the funeral service will be held at 8 a.m. on the 28th.

Born in 1949, Jeon Yoo-sung debuted in 1969 as a comedy broadcast writer through a special recruitment by TBC Dongyang Broadcasting. He later actively worked as a comedian and was nationally loved through programs such as "Humor No. 1" and "Show Video Jockey." He coined the term "gagman," greatly contributing to establishing comedy as a cultural and artistic genre.

Since the 1970s, Jeon Yoo-sung was called the godfather of Korean comedy, nurturing many junior comedians. He discovered and mentored various talents such as Lee Moon-sae, Joo Byung-jin, Kim Shin-young, and Jo Se-ho. Regarding his death, several colleagues including comedians Park Joon-hyung, Lee Kyung-sil, Kim Young-chul, Jo Se-ho, and Kim Dae-beom left messages of condolence on social media. His ex-wife, singer Jin Mi-ryeong, sent a condolence wreath as a final farewell.

Jeon Yoo-sung's surviving family includes his daughter, Jeon Je-bi, and the funeral will be held as a comedian's funeral according to his wishes. His passing is regarded as a great loss to the Korean popular culture industry. Jeon Yoo-sung was a figure who contributed to the development of comedy, and his achievements and influence will be remembered in the future.
