Namjoo Kim, a nostalgic journey to the Namdaemun Market during her unknown days

Actor Kim Nam-joo shared a story about visiting Namdaemun Market while reminiscing about her youth. On the SBS Life broadcast "Queen of Taste Kim Nam-joo," she recalled memories from her childhood as she visited Namdaemun Market. She said, "I used to go to the Sungnyemun import shopping center a lot with my mom," reflecting on the past. Kim Nam-joo took out a gas curling iron and explained, "This is a gas-powered curling iron. This is where you put the gas in." She revealed that she wanted to remember her younger days through this curling iron.

Kim Nam-joo detailed her experiences at Namdaemun Market. She said, "Coming to Namdaemun after a long time brings back old memories. I was about 21 or 22 years old, so this was around 30 years ago." She recalled that her photo was posted at Namdaemun back then, and her mother was proud of it. She added, "My mom really liked it. She would say, 'Here you are,' loudly to people, saying, 'Oh, our Nam-joo is here.'"

Kim Nam-joo also explained her experience working as a model at Namdaemun. She said, "I started as a clothing model at Namdaemun. Inside Namdaemun, there are rows of clothing stores, and in front of them, they laminated photos of the clothes they had modeled and hung them up." She mentioned that models carried their own accessories and props and styled their hair with a curling iron by themselves at 6 a.m.

Recalling her first experience as a model, she said, "If you sat there with a simple hairstyle, merchants would come by. They would select models. When they first saw me, they said I was fresh, so they chose me right away." She shared that she was happy with her routine of 24-hour shoots and taking the train from Seoul Station to Pyeongtaek. She recalled, "My mom kept checking, 'Did you lose any money? Did you drop it?' because I was paid in cash. She put the money in my pocket and worried it might fall out."

Kim Nam-joo also talked about her experience as a flyer model at a department store. She said, "There were small models at the department store. I looked good in school uniforms or uniforms." Recreating a popular pose from that time, she added, "I was 21 then." She emphasized that she worked 25 days a month as a model and that period was truly happy.

Emphasizing her connection to Namdaemun Market, Kim Nam-joo said, "Since I started as a Namdaemun model, if you go to my mom's house, there might be photos of me shooting the Namdaemun Market catalog." She also expressed her affection for triangular coffee milk and recalled memories of Namdaemun with her older sister during childhood.

After exploring Namdaemun Market, Kim Nam-joo tasted salad bread and tteokbokki and was seen taking out food from a famous hotteok shop. The production team laughed, saying, "You only packed food after coming to Namdaemun," and Kim Nam-joo replied, "I came to eat," continuing to enjoy her time.
