Cho Yong-pil proves his enduring popularity by achieving a 14.2% viewership rating at the KBS Chuseok Special Concert

The legendary singer Cho Yong-pil once again proved his iconic presence through the KBS grand project concert "Cho Yong-pil – Forever This Moment" on the 6th. This concert was a special event planned to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation and was broadcast as a three-part series on KBS2.

The concert was recorded on the 6th of last month at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul, and achieved an average viewership rating of 14.2% across the three episodes. The second episode recorded the highest rating of 15.7%, ranking first among all programs aired on the same day. This was the highest figure in the live broadcast competition of Chuseok special concerts among the three major terrestrial broadcasters. SBS's "Lim Young-woong Recital," aired on the 4th, recorded 6.2%, and MBC's "Ssesibong The Last Concert," aired on the 3rd, only reached 3.8%.

"Cho Yong-pil – Forever This Moment" is Cho Yong-pil's first solo stage on KBS in 28 years since the 1997 "Big Show." To meet the expectations of the audience and viewers, KBS extended the special program to three hours, 20 minutes longer than originally planned. KBS stated that they strived to provide a fantastic immersive experience through giant LED screens, dazzling lighting, fireworks, and computer graphics (CG) added in post-production.

Cho Yong-pil passionately sang 29 songs, including "Heogong," "Dream," "Pepper Dragonfly," "That Winter's Teahouse," "Mona Lisa," "Youth Era," "Song of the Wind," "Leopard of Kilimanjaro," "Bounce," and "Let's Go on a Trip," while harmonizing with the 18,000-strong audience's chorus. The KBS Symphony Orchestra joined him for the special stage performance of "Sad Beatrice."

Fans of various generations filled the venue, and Lee Seung-gi was spotted waving a light stick from one side of the audience. Cho Yong-pil repeatedly shouted "Thank you" to the audience singing along. He said, "I will keep singing from now on, and if it doesn't work out, I'll take a break for two to three years and come back, and if it still doesn't work, I'll take another four to five years off and come back again." He also shared his thoughts, saying, "Today's concert title is 'Forever This Moment.' I hope this moment with you will be remembered for a long time, just as the title says."

In a VCR interview aired during the concert, Cho Yong-pil explained his reason for accepting the invitation: "If not now, there won't be many chances to see you all. Also, my voice will probably get worse in the future. I thought I had to do it quickly before that happens."

KBS is airing a "Cho Yong-pil Special" throughout the Chuseok holiday. On the 5th, Cho Yong-pil appeared on KBS's main news program "News 9" and said, "I get asked a lot if I'm going to retire, but I plan to continue as long as I can," adding, "I will keep working hard like a rookie." He also mentioned that the secret to maintaining his vocal power at the age of 75 and 57 years since his debut is consistent practice with the heart of a newcomer.

On the 8th at 8 p.m., a behind-the-scenes documentary titled "Cho Yong-pil, Forever This Moment – Record of That Day," which allows viewers to savor the concert's afterglow, will be broadcast. On the same day at 9 p.m., a special edition of "Cho Yong-pil, Forever This Moment," including unreleased footage of "Friend," will be aired.
