Actress Kim Sung-eun candidly shared about her difficult past. On the September 9th broadcast of tvN STORY's Chuseok special "Did Someone Order Coffee? Soonpoong Family," the main cast of the sitcom "Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology" reunited after 25 years. During the broadcast, Kim Sung-eun said, "This fall is my last semester," adding, "I enrolled in 2010, but my father passed away the year I entered school."
Kim Sung-eun revealed the story of becoming the head of her household as an only daughter. She explained, "Our family situation had not been good for a long time. Being an only daughter without siblings was overwhelming. I couldn't afford tuition, so I took a leave of absence and worked part-time jobs and at companies, and after going through all that, I eventually returned to acting."
She shared her experience of struggling with alcohol dependence after her father's death. She confessed, "I was young and just wanted to lose my mind. At some point, I thought, 'I can't live like this. Everything will fall apart. Dad wouldn't like this,' so I made an effort and recovered."
During the broadcast, Kim Sung-eun received encouragement from actor Park Young-gyu, who played Midal's father in "Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology." Park Young-gyu advised, "One day, the things you've lived through will definitely be sublimated into your acting. Acting comes from living. Without that, you can't have deep acting."
Kim Sung-eun debuted in 1998 with the SBS sitcom "Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology." She married a non-celebrity man in July last year. Since returning to acting in 2018, she has been active in Daehangno and regional performances.
In the broadcast, Lee Chang-hoon reminisced about memories with Midal, saying, "Midal's mom and I are the same age." He added with a smile, "When Midal was in elementary school, she called me 'oppa' (older brother)." Park Young-gyu talked about Kim Sung-eun's confident attitude at the time, saying, "The kid had a high mental age. I thought of her as a friend, so I even asked her about her income."
Kim Sung-eun explained why she attended university for 15 years, saying, "My father suddenly passed away, and as an only daughter, I became the head of the household. I couldn't graduate because I was working and doing part-time jobs." Reflecting on her period of alcohol dependence, she honestly confessed, "I wanted to lose my mind. Honestly, it was overwhelming."
Park Young-gyu warmly advised in response to Kim Sung-eun's confession, "It hurts my heart. But you can't act without having lived. Surely, your life will be reflected in your acting." Kim Sung-eun's honest story touched many people.
Kim Sung-eun has overcome her past pain and continues her current activities. Starting with the theater stage, she has been steadily pursuing acting and is expected to present deeper performances based on her experiences.
