
Cho Yong-pil's performance recorded high viewership ratings in KBS's grand special program "Cho Yong-pil, Forever This Moment," which aired on Chuseok day. This broadcast marked Cho Yong-pil's first appearance on KBS in 28 years since the 1997 "Big Show," capturing the live concert held at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome. During the 150-minute broadcast, Cho Yong-pil passionately sang 28 songs including "Unknown World," "Can't Find You, Nightingale," "Short Hair," "Pepper Dragonfly," "Come Back to Busan Port," and "It's Okay." The program also featured a collaborative stage with the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
According to Nielsen Korea, the main concert's nationwide viewership rating for "Cho Yong-pil, Forever This Moment" was 15.7%. This was the highest rating across all terrestrial, general programming, and cable channels on Chuseok day. The peak rating reached 18.2% during the performance of "It's Okay." The behind-the-scenes documentary of the concert, released on the 8th, recorded a 7.3% rating, and the special rebroadcast on the same day scored 7.0%. The special edition included an unreleased stage of the collaboration piece "Friend" with the KBS Symphony Orchestra. The prequel aired before the main concert achieved a 3.2% rating.
During the broadcast, Cho Yong-pil expressed his passion for the stage, saying, "Dying on stage is my dream." He added, "How happy would I be if I died singing? That is my dream." These remarks deeply resonated with viewers. The KBS viewer board was filled with positive comments such as "Three hours flew by," and "The whole family sang along in the living room and had a happy time."
Despite suffering from tinnitus and dry mouth before the concert, Cho Yong-pil showed determination in his practice. He emphasized the importance of practice, saying, "If you don't sing, your voice ages, so you have to keep it strong." He also stated his conviction, "Music is all I know in my life."
Praise from junior singers was also notable. Singer Lee Seung-gi and actress Go So-young were shown waving light sticks at Gocheok Dome in support. Shin Seung-hoon expressed his respect for Cho Yong-pil, saying, "I want to do the same at that age." IU described him as "the only singer loved by all generations." Choi Jung-hoon of Jannabi said, "Cho Yong-pil will remain a great king beyond just a king of singers."
