Cho Yong-pil achieves 18.2% viewership rating with Chuseok concert... Leading family unity

Singer Cho Yong-pil dominated living rooms during the Chuseok holiday. He played a role in uniting families through a stage that spanned generations. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day this year, KBS held the concert "Cho Yong-pil, This Moment Forever" on September 6 at Seoul Gocheok Dome. The performance was broadcasted, achieving a peak viewership rating of 18.2% and a nationwide average of 15.7%. Following this, the behind-the-scenes documentary of the concert, "Memories of That Day," aired on September 8, recording a peak rating of 9.1% and a nationwide average of 7.3%.

Cho Yong-pil turned 75 this year. During the concert, he filled the stage with his voice for 180 minutes without any guests. He performed a total of 28 songs, adding new charm to familiar tunes with arrangements that highlighted the band sound. The grand sound and detailed stage production captivated the audience's attention.

Immediately after the broadcast, positive reactions from various age groups continued on social media. Some members of the 20s and 30s generation responded to Cho Yong-pil's familiar songs. Although they were not born during his prime, they empathized with his music and found joy in it. Stories also emerged about parents and children enjoying the concert together. This was seen as a demonstration of Cho Yong-pil's role as a representative singer connecting generations.

Cho Yong-pil will continue his "2025-26 Cho Yong-pil & The Great Birth National Tour Concert," starting December 13 at BEXCO in Busan. Some performances had remaining seats until just before the Chuseok holiday, but the number of available seats significantly decreased after the broadcast. Some younger fans said, "We booked tickets to watch the concert with our parents."

Debuting in 1968, Cho Yong-pil has long been a leading figure in the Korean music industry. He left behind numerous hit songs such as "Short Hair," "Friend," "Mona Lisa," and "The Winter's Tea House." He also achieved remarkable success in concert sales. Gocheok Dome, where Cho Yong-pil's concert was held, is a large stadium mainly used for major sports events and stages for top idol groups with huge fandoms and ticket power. Despite being in his 58th year since debut, Cho Yong-pil filled Gocheok Dome alone. This proves that he still holds the influence to fill large venues.

Cho Yong-pil's music evokes empathy across generations, and his influence is expected to continue in future performances. His music and concerts will be remembered by many for years to come.
