The movie "Boss," starring actor Jo Woo-jin, has succeeded at the box office by surpassing 2 million viewers. According to the Integrated Computerized Ticketing System, "Boss" recorded a cumulative audience of 2,036,589 on October 12, the 10th day since its release on October 3. The film topped the overall box office during the golden holiday period, receiving great responses from audiences.
"Boss" is a comic action film about the selection of the next boss of an organization, with Jo Woo-jin playing the role of Soon-tae, the organization's second-in-command. The film depicts the process in which Soon-tae and Kang-pyo (played by Jung Kyung-ho), the legitimate successor, both refuse the suddenly vacant boss position. They reject the boss role for their own dreams, and conflicts intensify as they become entangled with Pan-ho (played by Park Ji-hwan), who wants the boss position but is not recognized.
From its first week, "Boss" ranked first at the box office and maintained this position for eight consecutive days. It surpassed 1 million viewers within five days of release and reached the break-even point of 1.7 million viewers on the seventh day. This is the fastest record for attracting 2 million viewers among October releases since the 2020 pandemic.
The movie "Boss" combines cheerful comedy with retro-inspired action, receiving positive responses from audiences of all ages. Viewers left comments such as, "I laughed and enjoyed it with my kids after a long time," "I laughed so hard I held my stomach," and "A movie the whole family enjoyed."
"Boss" generated high expectations by ranking first in overall pre-booking rates before its release. After opening, it continued its success by setting the highest opening score and the fastest 1 million viewer milestone among Korean films released in October since the pandemic.
On October 11, it lost the number one spot at the box office to the Japanese animation "Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Chapter," but it is expected to reclaim the top position on weekdays when family audiences decrease.
To celebrate surpassing 2 million viewers, the film's production team released certification photos of director Ra Hee-chan and the lead actors. Jo Woo-jin, Park Ji-hwan, Lee Kyu-hyung, and Hwang Woo-seul-hye expressed their gratitude to the audience.
Currently, "Boss" is screening nationwide and is dominating the autumn box office with enthusiastic word of mouth from viewers.
