In episode 2 of the tvN weekend drama "Typhoon Corporation," which aired on the 12th, the protagonist Kang Taepung (played by Lee Junho) was shown breaking down in tears after losing his father Kang Jinyoung (played by Sung Dong-il). According to Nielsen Korea, this episode recorded an average nationwide household rating of 6.8%, peaking at 7.5%, while the average household rating in the metropolitan area was 6.3%, reaching a high of 7.2%. These figures marked an increase from the previous episode, securing first place in the same time slot among cable and general programming channels.
In this episode, the story unfolds with Kang Taepung joining Typhoon Corporation as a new employee during the economic crisis known as the IMF. Taepung, feeling the financial pressure at his father's funeral, headed to Typhoon Corporation to organize his father's office. The office contained numerous ledgers and journals accumulated by his father, serving as evidence of his intense life.
Choi, the president of Sapdari Logistics, a client of Typhoon Corporation (played by Kim Doyoung), caused a disturbance attempting to seize the condolence box over unpaid debts. In this situation, accountant Oh Miseon (played by Kim Minha) accurately recalled contract clauses and invoice issuance dates, notifying that the payment deadline had not yet passed, thereby calming the situation. However, President Choi continued to pressure Taepung by demanding a joint guarantee.
In response, Taepung vowed to take responsibility, carrying on his father's wishes. He told President Choi, "Starting today, I am an employee," as he filled out the employment documents. Taepung discovered a secret safe in his father's office and, upon entering the password "2072," found bankbooks under the names of employees. Through this, Taepung came to understand his father's heartfelt care for his employees as if they were family.
Inside Kang Taepung's bankbook was a letter from his father. Depositing 300,000 won monthly, the letter, limited to four characters in the sender field, contained the message: "Father supports your dreams. You are always the person I love the most. People are more important than results." Feeling his father's heart through this, Taepung strengthened his resolve to become a "true employee of Typhoon Corporation."
The next day, Taepung erased his flashy style and went to work dressed in a proper suit. He headed to the Daebang Textile delivery site with Miseon, but the atmosphere there was unusual. The office was overly clean, the filing cabinets were empty, and the telephone lines were unplugged. Sensing something was wrong, Taepung urged Miseon to trust him and not to stamp any documents.
Ultimately, Taepung lay down on the asphalt to block a truck loaded with fabric. This scene recalled his father's lesson to young Taepung: "It's not that the flowers are falling, but that they are doing their best to win in order to bear fruit." Whether Taepung can bring fruit to the financially troubled Typhoon Corporation remains uncertain, but the tense situation ended with a hopeful note, heightening anticipation for the next episode.
"Typhoon Corporation" airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM.
