Actor Jung Woong-in revealed an incident in which he was defrauded by a former manager. On the 13th episode of Channel A's "Close Friends Documentary: Table for Four," Jung Woong-in stated, "I chose the wrong manager at the time." He explained that while filming the movie "Circle," he purchased a nice car, but the manager, who was managing all his assets, secretly took documents under his name and took out a loan using the car as collateral.
Jang Hang-jun, a college classmate of Jung Woong-in and a film director, testified, "The manager ran away with almost all of his assets," adding, "He also had all of Jung Woong-in's seals and borrowed money under his name." As a result, Jung Woong-in was harassed by loan sharks' calls, which interfered with his acting activities. He said, "I even asked the director to pay the remaining balance first," and "Red seizure stickers were placed on the home appliances and furniture in my house."
Jung Woong-in eventually went to the loan sharks and knelt down. He said, "It was the first time I knelt in front of such people," and "After pleading for the remaining debt to be forgiven, I retrieved my car."
Since debuting in the 1996 drama "Cheonilyahwa," Jung Woong-in has left a strong impression in dramas such as "Gukhee," "Eunsil," the sitcom "Three Friends," the movie "Two Cops," and dramas "Queen Seondeok" and "I Hear Your Voice." In particular, "Three Friends" was very popular, recording a peak viewership rating of 37.8% despite being scheduled at 11 p.m. on Monday nights. He recalled the moment he felt the popularity, saying, "'Three Friends' was so popular that when I went to work on Tuesday, office workers would talk about the previous night's broadcast."
However, Jung Woong-in left the sitcom due to his desire to pursue deeper acting as an actor. He added, "Looking back now, I feel sorry for the seniors and colleagues I worked with." But the real crisis came afterward. Jung Woong-in confessed, "After 'Three Friends,' I hesitated because I chose the wrong manager. At that time, I was doing well and even bought an imported car, but I entrusted the car to the manager, who took out a loan on it, and eventually disappeared."
Director Jang Hang-jun explained, "He ran away with all the assets. He even had all the seals." Due to this, Jung Woong-in was bombarded with calls from loan sharks and even asked the director of the movie "Circle" to pay the remaining balance first. Jung Woong-in recalled with sadness, "When they came to put seizure stickers on the house, my mother was in an uproar. But since I was a celebrity, they carefully placed the stickers on the back of the house."
Finally, Jung Woong-in confessed that he knelt down in front of the loan sharks to retrieve the remaining vehicle. He said with a bitter smile, "It was the first time I knelt down in front of such people. I begged them to forgive the remaining amount."
This incident had a significant impact on Jung Woong-in's acting career, and he has continued to strive to become a better actor based on his experience. Jung Woong-in's confession served as a wake-up call about management issues and fraud damage in the entertainment industry.
