It has been confirmed that Hwang Hana, the great-granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, is residing in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Hwang Hana is currently on Interpol's red notice for drug use charges, and according to a recent report by Sunday Magazine, she moved from Thailand to Cambodia and is living in a luxury residential complex apartment. Hwang is living with a local Korean man, who is known to come from Thailand's upper class.
Hwang is supported by this man, and his associates reported witnessing them frequently enjoying parties at entertainment establishments. Additionally, local informants claim that Hwang has been inviting acquaintances she knew in Korea to induce prostitution with the local man and is involved in drug distribution. They also provided information that Hwang is assisting local wealthy individuals with money laundering.
The reason Hwang can evade the local police investigation despite committing crimes in Thailand is that she is accompanied by members of the upper class. Thailand's high society, known as "HiSo," represents the elite class, who mainly operate in private spaces and often use their power to obtain immunity. Hwang continues her fugitive life within this environment.
Hwang was publicly known as the fiancée of singer and actor Park Yoochun. The two announced their marriage in 2017, but the engagement was broken off after Hwang's drug use was revealed. Subsequently, Hwang was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation in 2019 and was released, but she was charged again during the probation period for repeated drug use and theft of luxury shoes. The prosecution demanded a prison sentence of two years and six months for multiple crimes and aggravated punishment.
In 2023, while investigating the drug case involving the late actor Lee Seon-gyun, the police formally charged Hwang, but she left for Thailand during the investigation. After additional charges surfaced, the police issued a red notice for Hwang and requested consular assistance locally.
Hwang's recent whereabouts have spread through online communities and have drawn more attention due to a series of kidnapping and confinement incidents targeting Koreans in Cambodia. Her fugitive life has been spotlighted again alongside rumors linking Seungri, a former member of the group Big Bang, to the Cambodian crime complex known as the "Prince Complex." Seungri once stated at a Cambodian event, "Cambodia is not dangerous. It is the best country in Asia," and the logo of "Prince Brewing" was displayed behind him. This logo has recently been pointed out by foreign media as similar to "Prince Holdings," which operates the "Prince Complex."
Hwang's situation is entangled with complex crimes, and her actions are likely to cause further issues in the future. Currently, after fleeing Thailand, Hwang is living a luxurious life in Cambodia, amid suspicions of involvement in various crimes. Police investigations are ongoing, and additional information about Hwang's whereabouts is being sought.
