Composer Lee Jae expressed his willingness to collaborate with BTS's Jungkook. On the October 19 broadcast of JTBC's 'Newsroom' special segment, Lee Jae appeared as the composer and vocalist of the OST "Golden" from the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (hereafter "KPDH"). Lee Jae participated in multiple OST projects for "KPDH," and "Golden" held the number one spot on the US Billboard chart for over eight weeks. The song was submitted for the Grammy Awards in the categories of "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year."
During the broadcast, Lee Jae said that he still cannot believe his popularity and described it as "like a dream." He added, "I always wanted to create a hit song, but I never expected it to happen this quickly." He also mentioned the recent "Golden" challenge, which even parents have been participating in, saying, "I watch all the videos. It's so much fun." Lee Jae found it impressive how fathers initially reacted with "What is this?" and then suddenly wore Lumi outfits and danced.
"Golden" was an emotionally challenging song for Lee Jae. He revealed, "I cried a lot during the demo recording," and said, "The bridge part felt like my own story." He explained that he put his own story into the lyrics and related deeply to the character Lumi. He confessed, "Singing 'Golden' gave me confidence and hope."
Lee Jae mentioned that among K-POP artists, he was inspired by god. He likes god's song "Road," and said that thanks to this song, he grew to like K-POP even more. Lee Jae recalled, "I learned Korean by looking at the lyrics of 'Road.'"
Lee Jae expressed his desire to collaborate with BTS's Jungkook. He said, "I want to write a good melody for Jungkook." Publicly requesting Jungkook, he said, "Please collaborate with me once. Thank you," showing his fandom. When the anchor asked, "Won't we see a collaboration soon?" Lee Jae replied, "It would be a great honor." He praised Jungkook's singing skills, saying, "Delivering the lyrics is important, and he does it so well."
Regarding his future goals, Lee Jae said, "I want to create songs as an artist and grow further as a composer." He expressed his wish to work with composers he respects. In an interview last July, Lee Jae mentioned that winning a Grammy is his goal, and promised to appear again when that moment comes.
