Kim Young-woong, Unknown for 37 Years, Captures the Public's Heart with 'Vincenzo'

Kim Young-woong is a veteran actor with 37 years of experience who has recently gained attention by appearing on TV Chosun's program "My Way – Over-Immersion Club." He has appeared in 40 films and 33 dramas, and notably became known to the public for his role as Park Seok-do in the tvN drama "Vincenzo." Since then, he has played supporting roles in various dramas such as "Happiness," "No Goo Pil-soo," "Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938," "Fool of the End," "Good Partner," "Parole Officer Lee Han-shin," and "Melo Movie."

This year, Kim Young-woong made a special appearance in the Netflix drama "Trickster," playing the role of an inn owner who carries out a scam alongside IU and Park Bo-gum, successfully fulfilling the role of a scene stealer. His acting left a strong impression on many. He continued his active career by appearing in dramas such as "I Took the Male Lead's First Night" and "Try: We Become Miracles."

However, it recently shocked many to learn that Kim Young-woong is working part-time at a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant to make a living. In the October 15 episode of TV Chosun's "My Way – Over-Immersion Club," footage aired showing him starting his day not on a filming set but at the samgyetang restaurant. He revealed that he has been working part-time at the restaurant for about a year to secure a steady income.

Kim Young-woong introduced himself as a "livelihood actor," leading a busy life cooking samgyetang, serving tables, and washing dishes at the restaurant. Despite this, he showed his exceptional passion by frequently holding scripts and practicing his lines.

About 50 actors who dream of becoming great stars work at this restaurant, and they gather from time to time to practice acting, never neglecting their main profession. The restaurant owner, Yoo Jang-young, an 18-year veteran actor, provides jobs to actors struggling to make ends meet, helping them continue their acting careers. This place has attracted attention for its unique work environment where employees receive applause even if they miss work due to auditions or filming.

After finishing his part-time job, Kim Young-woong continues practicing acting, improving his concentration by juggling in the park or reciting the lyrics of Tak Jae-hoon's song "I'm So Glad" as lines, performing emotional acting. His presence has been clearly felt in many works, big or small, and as a result of his efforts, he has deeply moved the public.

Born in Busan, Kim Young-woong began his acting career there. He married at 28 but once gave up acting due to financial difficulties. He started a vegetable store, but it went out of business shortly after. For the next 10 years, he made a living through daily labor jobs such as loading and unloading parcels and installing solar panels, but never gave up on his dream of acting. After relentless effort and challenges, he finally reached his current position at the age of 54.

He is scheduled to appear as Park Shin-hye's father and a fried chicken restaurant owner in the upcoming drama "Undercover Miss Hong," set to air next year. Kim Young-woong's acting career is just beginning, and expectations for his future are growing. Many are sending messages of support to Kim Young-woong, who expressed his ambition, saying, "I will always do my best for those who laugh and cry with my acting."
