Broadcaster and former announcer Kim Jae-won shared his thoughts on leaving KBS and stepping down from 'Morning Yard.' On the 25th, Kim Jae-won appeared on MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' and revealed his views on retirement. He said, "This is the first time I've sat as a panelist after retirement," adding, "For 30 years, I never had a place to talk about myself."
Kim Jae-won said that while hosting 'Morning Yard,' he woke up every day at 4:40 a.m. He explained, "I never knew life could be this happy waking up without an alarm. The early morning was really comfortable. My wife even said, 'You really got up out of stubbornness all this time.'" He added that he realized he was not a morning person but a night owl.
Regarding his departure from KBS ahead of the 10,000th episode special of 'Morning Yard,' where he had worked for 12 years, he said, "Honestly, there was a burden in my heart because 'Morning Yard' is the first program in Korea to reach 10,000 episodes. It was truly an honor, and I thought being the MC at that moment was a chance sent from heaven."
Kim Jae-won mentioned, "Given my personality, I thought I couldn't survive outside in a jungle-like environment. Still, working at one company for over 30 years comes with joys and sorrows. Why wouldn't it have shaken me?" He revealed that he wanted to show a new side every time KBS's executive team changed. About the recent executive team's decision to replace MCs, he explained, "Judging by the atmosphere, it was a fight over who would leave first, who would be pushed out first."
Kim Jae-won said that in February, when the executive team proposed a change, conflicts arose with the production staff. He said, "At that time, I thought I should stay because I was attached to KBS and 'Morning Yard,' but the offer for voluntary retirement came up. I thought it was an opportunity given by heaven." He also emphasized, "'Morning Yard' is a program I am very grateful for, but I didn't think I necessarily had to stay until the 10,000th episode. Above all, I thought it was the duty of a senior to hand it over cleanly to the juniors."
Kim Jae-won's remarks reflect his career as a broadcaster and his experiences at KBS. Through 'Morning Yard,' he communicated with many viewers and honestly conveyed the emotions and thoughts he felt during that process. His decision to conclude his long career at KBS and open the way for juniors highlights the changes in the broadcasting industry and further emphasizes the legacy he left behind.
