BTS's Jimin has further solidified his position as a Korean artist in the global music market. According to the latest report "Spotify Earnings Map 2025" by the UK-based global financial data platform TradingPlatforms, Jimin's solo track "Who" (2024) generated approximately $8.16 million (about 1.1 billion KRW) in revenue on Spotify within one year of its release. This report estimates Spotify streaming revenues based on representative artists from each country.
Jimin is the only Korean artist to rank in the global top 10 for earnings. His song "Who" competed alongside global hits such as The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" from Canada, Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" from the UK, and Avicii's "Wake Me Up" from Sweden.
"Who" has surpassed 2 billion streams worldwide on Spotify, with only 3.89% of those streams coming from South Korea. This indicates that Jimin's music is widely loved by global listeners beyond national borders. Notably, his performance in the U.S. market stands out. "Who" ranked 28th on the 2024 U.S. Annual Song Earnings Chart, earning $1.85 million (about 260 million KRW) in less than six months after its release. This marks the only K-pop solo artist's song to enter the chart in the past decade.
Furthermore, according to TradingPlatforms' evaluation, Jimin's "Who" generated millions of dollars in revenue within just 12 months of release, standing shoulder to shoulder with classic hits accumulated over more than ten years. For example, Alan Walker's "Faded" earned $9 million in cumulative revenue over ten years. In this comparison, Jimin's "Who" rose to global hit status at an overwhelming speed.
Following his 2023 solo album title track "Like Crazy," which made him the first Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, Jimin has now proven his personal influence as a world-class artist in terms of Spotify earnings.
His achievements serve as an example that K-pop solo artists can establish successful revenue structures, demonstrating that his music has translated from buzz to tangible economic value. Jimin's musical accomplishments contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Korean artists in the global market, playing a crucial role in the globalization of K-pop.
Jimin's "Who" goes beyond mere musical success, contributing to realizing the economic value of the Korean music industry. These achievements will act as factors that further increase the potential for Korean artists to succeed in the global market.
Jimin's continuous growth is progressing alongside the development of the K-pop industry and will remain an important case contributing to the globalization of Korean music. For K-pop artists to successfully establish themselves in the global market, it is necessary to explore more diverse strategies through examples like Jimin.
In conclusion, Jimin's "Who" symbolizes the global success of Korean artists and is regarded as an important case demonstrating how future K-pop artists can build competitiveness in the global market.
