K-Pop Demon Hunters OST 'Golden' Achieves No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100

The OST "Golden" from the Netflix original series "Kpop Demon Hunters" (hereinafter "KDH") is maintaining its position at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to the Billboard chart released on the 3rd (local time), "Golden" currently holds the second spot after non-consecutively ranking number 1 for eight weeks. This song has become the main OST of the series, which centers on the battle between the K-pop superstar and demon hunter girl group "Huntrix" and the demon "Lion Boys," who disguise themselves as a popular boy group.

The plot of "KDH" depicts "Huntrix" protecting Homun, the shield between the human and demon worlds, while "Lion Boys" conspire to collapse Homun by stealing their fandom. The series features characters modeled after K-pop artists. "Lion Boys" reference the appearances and concepts of BTS, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, Monsta X, Big Bang, and others, with their leader Jinwoo inspired by the styles of Cha Eun-woo from the K-pop boy group Astro and actor Nam Joo-hyuk. "Huntrix" was designed by blending the styles of K-pop girl groups such as BLACKPINK, ITZY, and TWICE.

Alongside the film's success, the OST is also gaining attention. The OST "TAKEDOWN" was performed by Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung of TWICE, who are active as a K-pop girl group, and it includes elements reminiscent of existing K-pop girl groups. TWICE's song "Strategy" appears as a previously released track by Huntrix, linking Huntrix to the K-pop girl group TWICE. The OST tracklist consists of a total of 12 songs, including "Golden."

"Golden" appears as the "Shield of Light" that Huntrix uses to complete Homun, expressing a turning point where they accept their identity and mission as K-pop idols and demon hunters. This song has been covered by prominent Korean artists on social media and programs. Ahn Yujin of the K-pop girl group IVE uploaded a cover video of "Golden" on the official YouTube channel, and Sieun, Yoon, and Jae of STAYC performed the song on Mnet's "Live Wire."

The composer of "Golden," Lee Jae, trained as a trainee for 10 years at SM Entertainment, one of the three major entertainment companies, but failed to debut. He has been active as a composer and lyricist and created "Golden." In an interview with the media, Lee Jae stated, "'Golden' contains my hope that the time I hid myself in the lyrics will not be in vain."

"KDH" was released as a Netflix original series in June this year and ranked number 1 at the North American weekend box office. The series achieved 320 million streams over three months. Due to its immense popularity, a special screening was held in theaters in Korea. These achievements are regarded as the result of the combination of K-pop and global content.

Reflecting the global popularity of K-pop, "KDH" has gained further attention through the participation of K-pop artists. The series offers new entertainment for K-pop fans, and the OST further highlights the charm of K-pop. "KDH," which contributes to the global spread of K-pop content, is expected to continue receiving significant attention.
