SBS 'Our Ballad' Tops 2049 Ratings for 7 Consecutive Weeks

"Our Ballad" reveals the sincerity of both participants and production staff toward ballads. The 7th episode of SBS music audition "Our Ballad," aired on November 4th, recorded a 1.3% rating for Part 1 and 1.6% for Part 2 in the 2049 demographic. This achievement ranked first and second overall among all genre programs broadcast on Tuesday, maintaining the top spot among Tuesday variety shows for seven consecutive weeks. (Nielsen Korea, metropolitan area standard)

In this episode, the third round began based on the Top 100 Ballads Loved by Koreans chart. Choi Eun-bin and Kim Yoon-i interpreted Deulgukhwa's "That Is My World" in a unique way and were selected as the first semi-finalists. In the second round, Lee Joon-seok and Kim Soo-min competed one-on-one with the theme "Couples Starting Out," while Lee Seo-young and Lee Min-ji faced off with the theme "Cyworld." Lee Joon-seok showcased the essence of ballads through Weather Forecast's "If Only You Were Here," and Lee Min-ji received high praise from Jung Seung-hwan by performing Lee Seung-chul's "Fate" in her own style.

To balance the differences in matchups, a revote for the top backup contestants and additional qualifiers was held. In order of highest votes, Lee Ye-ji, Jung Ji-woong, and Hong Seung-min and Jeremy, tied with 87 votes, were allowed to continue their challenge. Thus, including Park Seo-jung, Cheon Beom-seok, Min Soo-hyun, Kang Ji-yeon, Lim Ji-sung, Choi Eun-bin, Song Ji-woo, Lee Ji-hoon, Kim Yoon-i, Lee Joon-seok, Lee Min-ji, Choi Hye-na, Kwon Mi-na, and the four additional qualifiers, a total of 17 contestants advanced to the third round.

In the third round, the Top 100 Ballads Loved by Koreans chart selected by "Our Ballad" was revealed. This chart was compiled by investigating ballads loved by all age groups, released from the 1980s, when ballads first emerged, through the 2020s. The third round, conducted as a duet battle, had the top backup representatives decide matchups based solely on the singers' names of the songs each team selected.

The first matchup featured Choi Eun-bin and Kim Yoon-i, who chose a song by the 1980s legend Deulgukhwa, against Lee Ji-hoon and Kang Ji-yeon, who selected a song by Shin Sung-woo, a leading figure of 1990s rock ballads. The 18-year-old peers Lee Ji-hoon and Kang Ji-yeon added freshness by performing Shin Sung-woo's "Seosi," ranked 97th on the Top 100 Ballads Loved by Koreans chart, as a male-female duet. Park Kyung-lim described their stage as feeling like watching the movies "Begin Again" and "Once." Jung Seung-hwan praised Lee Ji-hoon's voice for drawing listeners into another world and noted that Kang Ji-yeon's vocals suited the folk and folk rock sensibilities well.

Choi Eun-bin and Kim Yoon-i share a connection from being cast by the same agency in their second year of high school. They have shared five years of pursuing their dreams without giving up. Through Deulgukhwa's "That Is My World," they aimed to convey the heart of chasing dreams. Unlike the original, their performance delivered a soft and delicate expression that resonated deeply. Jeon Hyun-moo expressed confidence that their stage would become a new turning point in their lives. Cha Tae-hyun highly praised the performance, saying that a stage of this level on an audition show is the best.

Choi Eun-bin and Kim Yoon-i received 99 votes and advanced directly to the semi-finals. SBS music audition "Our Ballad" airs every Tuesday at 9 PM.
