Singer G-DRAGON conveyed his philosophy and sincerity as an artist. On November 5th, G-DRAGON appeared on MBC's current affairs and culture program "Son Seok-hee's Questions 3." He was recently appointed as the official ambassador for APEC and received the "Ok-gwan Cultural Medal" at the "Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards." These achievements demonstrate his established status as a representative artist of Korea.
G-DRAGON reunited with Son Seok-hee after 10 years and discussed under the theme "Kwon Ji-yong, the man who ended The Truman Show and returned to reality." He captivated attention with his fashionista-like stylish appearance, wearing a beige jacket with black line accents paired with a blue shirt, along with his signature hat and daisy-shaped brooch.
Having returned after a long hiatus, now one year into his comeback, G-DRAGON calmly expressed his artistic direction and inner changes. He said, "Ten years ago, every moment of my life was basically a period when I was active as 'G-DRAGON,' so I always wanted to do well and pursued perfection, deliberately pushing myself hard," adding, "During my break, I think I was able to separate work and life on and off. I definitely gained leisure, and every day feels precious."
He also revealed that the advice he received from Son Seok-hee 10 years ago, "Don't lose your sense," has stayed with him for a long time. Opening up about his musical concerns, G-DRAGON said, "There is a verb 'to do.' Whether you don't do it, can't do it, or do it well, in the end, 'doing' is the same, so you have to choose well. If you're going to do it, you want to do it well, but I always think about how often the public's evaluation matches one's choices and results. Now, I feel like I'm getting closer to an answer to some extent."
G-DRAGON also shared the story he wanted to convey in his third full-length album, "Übermensch." He said, "'Übermensch' is one of the driving forces that helped me endure during my break. When various situations and environments changed, I thought I could just recall this word, so I wanted to introduce it." He continued, "'PO₩ER' is a humorous satire on the media. During difficult times, what I could do was express myself through music, and this song was written based on my experiences."
In particular, he compared his life to the movie "The Truman Show." He said, "During an extremely sensitive period, absurd things kept happening, and it felt like I was inside The Truman Show," and continued sharing stories about himself becoming stronger after ending The Truman Show and returning to reality, which resonated with the audience.
G-DRAGON revealed his philosophy and conviction about music. At the welcome dinner performance for the "2025 APEC Summit," he said, "I believe music has the power to connect all of us as one beyond borders and languages." He added, "I think music doesn't need to be divided by generations. Even different languages have become accepted to the point of convergence, so the barriers to accepting differences have disappeared."
He also mentioned the moment he found his dream and his future plans. G-DRAGON said, "When I was young, I didn't know well, but the desire to show more to people led to practice, and through learning, that became my dream. What I lost over 10 years was time, but instead, I learned how to handle things more wisely with time, rather than reacting emotionally as I used to."
Regarding his plans after activities, he said, "I think a comma is necessary. After the comma, I plan to prepare for a new beginning." He also mentioned Big Bang, who will celebrate their 20th anniversary next year, saying, "As we approach the 20th anniversary, I even start thinking in advance that the 30th anniversary might be possible."
In this broadcast, G-DRAGON maintained his unique humor and insight even in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. His sincere conversation showed the current state of "the artist who ended The Truman Show and returned to reality," and Kwon Ji-yong, the human who is still growing.
Meanwhile, G-DRAGON is continuing the final leg of the "G-DRAGON 2025 WORLD TOUR [Übermensch]," which began with his Korea concert last March and is touring worldwide. Following his Hanoi performances on the 8th and 9th, he will hold encore concerts for three days from December 12th to 14th at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome. This encore concert will mark the finale of the world tour.
