The special investigation team is conducting an inquiry into the high-priced items received by Kim Gun-hee. During the investigation, it was confirmed that Kim received more than 10 luxury goods, most of which are believed to have been given in exchange for political favors.
On the 6th, the special investigation team additionally seized a bag from the French luxury brand Roger Vivier at Kim Gun-hee's residence. This bag is sold domestically for around 1 million won and is presumed to have been delivered to Kim Gun-hee by the spouse of Assemblyman Kim Ki-hyun shortly after the People Power Party convention in March 2023. The special investigation team plans to investigate whether this gift was given in return for Kim Gun-hee's support in the party leader election.
Assemblyman Kim Ki-hyun acknowledged the gift delivery but explained it as a matter of "social courtesy." This statement sparked internal criticism, with some questioning, "Does that mean people without money cannot observe courtesy?"
The special investigation team revealed that including the Roger Vivier bag, Kim Gun-hee received more than 10 luxury gifts around the time of former President Yoon Seok-yeol's inauguration. In September 2022, she received a Dior bag worth about 3 million won from Korean-American pastor Choi Jae-young, and in the spring of the same year, it was confirmed that she received a Graff necklace worth about 60 million won and two Chanel bags from the Unification Church. Kim Gun-hee admitted during the trial that she received two Chanel bags.
In March 2022, Chairman Lee Bong-gwan of Seohee Construction delivered a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace worth about 60 million won, and in January of the following year, former prosecutor Kim Sang-min delivered a painting by artist Lee Ufan worth about 100 million won to Kim Gun-hee's brother. Investigations are also ongoing regarding a Vacheron Constantin watch worth about 50 million won delivered by a robot dog entrepreneur and a gold turtle delivered by former National Education Committee Chairman Lee Bae-yong.
The special investigation team is considering applying bribery charges against Kim Gun-hee, with the key issue remaining whether there was collusion with former President Yoon. Additional related investigations are expected to continue.
