Jo Se-ho, Official Apology from Organizer over Drinking Controversy at Breast Cancer Event

Comedian Jo Se-ho apologized for the controversy related to the breast cancer awareness campaign event. On the 12th, Jo Se-ho appeared on the tvN variety show "You Quiz on the Block" and, during a meeting with broadcaster Park Mi-sun, who is battling breast cancer, he said, "I'm sorry for not seeing you for a long time. I sincerely want to apologize for my recent attendance." He added, "Since then, I have been cautious about meeting with you," and expressed his intention to raise awareness about breast cancer patients through this opportunity.

The event Jo Se-ho mentioned, the "20th W Korea Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: Love Your W," was held on the 15th of last month. The event was organized to improve breast cancer awareness, but some attendees were criticized for drinking alcohol and performing provocative acts. After the event, the magazine company issued an apology, stating, "There were criticisms that the composition and progress of the event were inappropriate in light of the campaign's purpose." They also said, "We will continue to review the shortcomings based on various criticisms and feedback."

On the broadcast, Park Mi-sun shared her breast cancer battle experience. She explained that she was diagnosed with breast cancer during a health checkup last year and that the surgery revealed metastasis to the lymph nodes. Park Mi-sun said, "If it spreads, chemotherapy is mandatory, so the treatment took longer," and added, "After the fourth round of treatment, I developed pneumonia." She also mentioned, "I completed 16 rounds of radiation therapy and am currently undergoing medication treatment."

Park Mi-sun revealed that she lost her hair due to chemotherapy and shaved her head in advance to prepare for it. She said, "Almost 100% of people lose their hair during breast cancer chemotherapy, so I shaved it beforehand." She also explained that her family tried to accept this comfortably.

She also talked about her husband Lee Bong-won's reaction. Park Mi-sun said, "I sent a message to my husband saying, 'I have cancer,' and he couldn't reply for a while," adding, "I sent another message saying, 'It's early stage, so it's okay.' Then my husband said, 'So what if you can't work? I'm here for you.'"

Jo Se-ho showed emotional overwhelm upon hearing about Park Mi-sun's current condition, and Park Mi-sun responded, "That's right. I must have been emotionally distressed. My cheeks have lost some weight." Park Mi-sun has previously revealed her breast cancer diagnosis as the reason for suspending her broadcasting activities due to health issues. She debuted as an MBC public comedian in 1988, married KBS public comedian Lee Bong-won in 1993, and has one son and one daughter.

Jo Se-ho's apology and Park Mi-sun's story of battling cancer are expected to serve as an opportunity to raise social awareness about breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, making early screening and awareness improvement crucial. This controversy has increased calls for greater understanding and attention toward breast cancer patients and their families.
