Badminton player An Se-young recently revealed her current status and feelings on a broadcast. On the 19th, An Se-young appeared on tvN's variety show "You Quiz on the Block" and mentioned her achievement of being ranked number one in the world during a conversation with Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho. Yoo Jae-suk reminded her that she was ranked second in the world when she appeared three years ago, emphasizing her growth. An Se-young said, "I went on a European tour and appeared on 'You Quiz' during a short break," adding, "There are matches at least twice a month."
An Se-young won nine out of 13 international tournaments she participated in this year, achieving a 94% winning rate. Yoo Jae-suk expressed amazement at her performance, saying, "It makes you more curious about why you lose than why you win." An Se-young shared, "Being number one in the world, I feel excited and have high expectations about how much more performance I can show."
When asked about her happiest moment, An Se-young replied, "It's when I win. Overcoming tough training and achieving these results while doing what I love is my greatest happiness." She also revealed that her total prize money this season exceeded 1 billion won. She said, "When my older teammates say, 'Since you earn well, treat us,' I gladly do. I also give many gifts to my mentors and buy snacks for my juniors."
When Yoo Jae-suk asked what kind of expenses she made for herself, An Se-young answered, "I didn't have many things I wanted to buy. Recently, I just changed my wallet once." She added, "I enjoy dressing up my younger siblings, styling them from head to toe. I think I feel more joy when I give gifts to others." Jo Se-ho pointed at Yoo Jae-suk and joked, "Top-ranked people seem similar. You don't spend much on yourself either, right?"
An Se-young mentioned the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games as the most difficult period in her athletic career. She recalled, "It was hard after I got injured. Having to deal with injuries continuously made me sensitive and it was a tough time." She shared her experience of winning the gold medal in the final while feeling pain, revealing that the injury had a significant impact on her. "During the process of overcoming the injury, I was quite shaken. But through that, I think it became an opportunity for me to become stronger," she said.
She also spoke about stress in human relationships. An Se-young said, "As a singles player, I am used to being alone. I am cautious about starting conversations with others. Dealing with people is difficult." She added, "I try to look confident and cool during matches, but when I return to daily life, I feel like I become a person who can't do anything."
Regarding how she overcomes slumps, she explained, "Solving it alone is best. Watching the matches I lost is the hardest, but since the answer lies within them, I have no choice but to watch." An Se-young added, "I believe you have to find the answer yourself for it to truly become yours."
She also mentioned the pressure of maintaining the number one spot. An Se-young said, "I think I know how it feels to fall, and because I don't want to feel that, I have to work harder, so keeping the number one position is difficult." She identified winning as her happiest moment.
As for her future goals, An Se-young emphasized, "Consistently achieving good results." She added, "If I continue to win tournaments without getting injured, I think I will eventually create another memorable chapter."
