Chaeyoung will also miss the world tour performances scheduled in Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. The agency added that Chaeyoung herself feels deep regret and has expressed her apologies to fans.
Chaeyoung had been actively promoting since releasing her first solo full-length album on September 12. However, the news of her activity suspension has caused great sadness among fans. JYP Entertainment emphasized that they will do their best to support Chaeyoung so she can appear before fans in good health as soon as possible.
Vasovagal syncope is a phenomenon where blood flow to the brain temporarily decreases due to extreme stress or mental and physical tension, causing loss of consciousness. This symptom is the most common type of fainting and frequently occurs even in young people without any underlying diseases. The medical community classifies this symptom as a "temporary fainting symptom" rather than a disease, but cautions that it may also signal other conditions such as heart or brain diseases, so attention is necessary.
Symptoms can appear in various situations such as increased stress, standing for long periods, staying in confined spaces for extended times, prolonged exposure to hot water, excessively holding in urine or feces, and experiencing extreme fear. Prodromal symptoms include dizziness, narrowed vision, cold sweat, pale complexion, and nausea.
For diagnosis, various tests such as electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, 24-hour Holter monitoring, tilt table test, and brain MRI may be conducted to differentiate from other diseases. Experts advise avoiding strenuous activity on an empty stomach, prolonged standing, and excessive stress. Hydration, regular strength exercise, and refraining from caffeine and alcohol help in prevention.
According to medical information from Seoul National University Hospital, when feeling dizzy and as if about to faint, one should immediately sit or lie down and elevate the legs to secure blood flow to the brain. If lying down is not possible, squatting with knees bent and placing the head between the knees is recommended until symptoms subside. After resting, avoid sudden standing and try to work or engage in activities while seated. Patients who frequently experience vasovagal syncope should be cautious when driving, and the decision to drive depends on the severity of symptoms.
The news of Chaeyoung's activity suspension has drawn attention along with other recent cases of vasovagal syncope in the entertainment industry. Actress Kim Jung-nan confessed her experience on YouTube, saying, "I almost crossed over to the afterlife due to fainting." She shared that she fainted beside her bedroom and hit her chin on the edge of a nightstand. Singer HyunA also collapsed on stage due to vasovagal syncope during the 'Waterbomb' concert held in Macau on the 9th, causing concern among fans.
These cases have increased interest in vasovagal syncope and raised calls for awareness of related symptoms. Fans continue to send their support wishing for Chaeyoung's speedy recovery, and the agency has pledged to do their utmost for her health restoration.
