RIIZE, a group representing the 5th generation of K-pop, held a large-scale exhibition throughout the Ilmin Museum of Art located in Jongno, Seoul. The Ilmin Museum of Art is a space designated as Seoul Tangible Cultural Property No. 131 and has been a venue presenting the flow of contemporary art since its opening in 1996. It is unusual for a K-pop artist to use the entire museum for an exhibition, and RIIZE's exhibition "Silence: Inside the Fame – Stillness and Waves" will run until the 30th.
This exhibition is a large-scale project planned to commemorate the release of RIIZE's new single "Fame," drawing attention as an original form combining music, art, and spatial experience. Ahead of their comeback, RIIZE continued promotions with a cinematic narrative structure and strengthened communication with fans through the "Fame Real-time Odyssey Timeline." On their Instagram sub-account, they shared members' daily lives, notes, and voice memos, encouraging fan immersion.
The exhibition focused on expanding the worldview of "Fame" through visual and spatial language. It expressed the duality of fame, cheers, stillness, growth, and trembling emotions through installation works, photographs, and videos. Visitors experienced a deeper engagement through interactive elements and a composition reflecting each member's symbolism.
The exhibition space consists of three floors. On the first floor, media installations using "Fame" teaser images and lens devices were presented. This installation allowed visitors to experience various perspectives on fame, stimulating curiosity through visual distortion and shifting focus. The second floor displayed individual photos of the members and short comments themed around "growth." Objects created by installation artist Goyoso interpreting each member's characteristics attracted visitors' attention. On the third floor's video zone, a 21-minute interview video featuring the members discussing their inner selves and aspirations was screened. In the quiet screening room, visitors concentrated as if immersed in a film.
In the preface, the exhibition's author explained, "The sincerity revealed at the moment when fame and fear, cheers and silence intersect resembles the growth experience that we all must go through." This exhibition is regarded as an experiment at the intersection of K-pop and contemporary art, with RIIZE being recognized as a 5th generation representative group presenting a new era sensibility.
Entering their third year, RIIZE released their first full-length album "ODYSSEY" last May and successfully completed their first world tour "RIIZING LOUD." After finishing their North American tour, they began preparing for their domestic comeback and will release their second single "Fame" at 6 PM on the 24th. "Fame" includes three tracks: "Something's in the Water," which acknowledges anxiety; the title track "Fame," narratively depicting RIIZE's ideal world; and "Sticky Like," expressing the urgency of love.
The title track "Fame" interprets the meaning of fame by adding rough electric guitar textures to a hip-hop base. The dance break in the outro, which rapidly bursts with accumulated emotions, is expected to attract attention. RIIZE, a group whose name combines "Rise" and "Realize," has centered their story on growth. Through this new release, they are expected to show a newly defined concept of "Fame."
RIIZE will hold a fan showcase at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjang-dong, Seoul, at 5 PM on the 24th, followed by the full release of the single at 6 PM. This single captures RIIZE's growth process and expresses intense emotions in the "emotional pop" genre. The title track "Fame" is RIIZE's first attempt at a rage-style hip-hop song, delivering dynamic energy through a combination of strong rhythms and rough electric guitar textures. The lyrics express RIIZE's ideal as artists, conveying a message that what they truly desire is not fame but the sharing of emotions and love.
This single differs significantly from RIIZE's previous discography, and fans are anticipating a new transformation. RIIZE plans to embody the message running through the entire single in the title track "Fame" through a multidimensional performance. The performance, based on hip-hop to match the song's mood, will allow the audience to feel both refined rhythmic interpretation and a relaxed flow alongside explosive power.
In line with the single's concept, RIIZE also released teaser images and trailer videos visualizing emotions hidden inside. Their portraits set against a mansion in London, UK, beautifully express the tension felt in stillness. The exhibition and album composition, where these portraits can be appreciated, are also drawing attention. Through this exhibition and album, RIIZE aims to demonstrate new possibilities as K-pop artists.
