It has been six years since the late Goo Hara passed away. She was found dead at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on November 24, 2019. Goo Hara was born on January 13, 1991, and debuted as a member of the group Kara in 2008. Since her debut, she released numerous hit songs such as "Pretty Girl," "Mister," "Honey," and "Mamma Mia," gaining great love both domestically and internationally. She ended her life at the age of 28.
One year before her death, in 2018, it was revealed that she had been a victim of a crime during a legal dispute with her ex-boyfriend Mr. Choi. As a result, she endured mental suffering such as depression and went through difficult times. After her death, her biological mother, who had been separated from her since childhood, appeared and demanded a division of her estate. In response, her older brother, Goo Ho-in, pushed for legislation called the "Goo Hara Act," which restricts inheritance rights for children when parents neglect their child-rearing duties. This bill passed the National Assembly and is set to be enforced in January 2026.
An audio recording capturing Goo Hara's voice during her lifetime was released last year. The new song "Hello" is an unreleased track recorded in Korean by her before her death and is scheduled to be included in Kara's fourth full-length album. The song features not only her voice but also the voices of the existing Kara members, adding special meaning.
On November 16, just before her sixth anniversary, Han Seo-hee, a singer trainee and close friend of Goo Hara, shared a photo of her during her lifetime and said, "In a few days, it will be the day Goo Hara betrayed me greatly. Unnie, I'm now older than you. Call me unnie." The public remembers Goo Hara on her sixth anniversary with messages such as "Are you doing well?", "I miss you so much," and "Rest in peace."
Goo Hara's legacy remains in the memories of the public. Her music and life have influenced many, and even after her death, she continues to be a subject of longing and tribute. Her activities during her lifetime remain an important milestone in K-POP history, and fans and the public cherish her memory.
